The short version

Episode 125 opened with Chris back from his travels, jet-lagged in red glasses, and the Seedance 2.5 teaser: 50 references, 30-second output, 4K and wireframe editing, with no beta programme in sight. Then 15 pieces went to the vote. Highdive's three-minute Jeep ad, made with Veo and Luma Dream Machine, took the most 1s of the night, 16 of them. Simon Meyer sold his cracked Samsung Galaxy S9 with an ad directed through Invideo's Agent One, and Glenn Batkin coined vibe directing. The middle of the show became fan film week, with Warcraft, Dragon Ball Z and 1960s Star Wars, before The Well topped the vote with a clean sweep of 1s and Private Island's Bunker Boyz roasted Silicon Valley's billionaires to close.

Score out of 100: a 1 counts fully, a 2 counts half, a 3 counts zero. Votes are counted the way StreamYard's live poll counts them: every 1, 2 or 3 mentioned in a YouTube live chat message while that piece was on screen, one vote per person per poll (their first). LinkedIn Live comments are still to be added.

Key takeaways

  1. 01

Brands are paying for long-form AI storytelling. Highdive's Jeep ad runs three minutes with no dialogue, a tyre as the hero and a song carrying it, and it was a commissioned ad, not a spec. It took the most 1s of the night, 16, and a single 2.

  2. 02

Agents now write the prompts. Simon Meyer ran Invideo's Agent One as his assistant director, production designer, voiceover agent and DP, and Glenn Batkin called his OpenArt Director workflow vibe directing. The idea and the edit stay human, and the middle is the agent's job.

  3. 03

Seedance 2.5 looks like the biggest jump in AI video yet. The teaser promises 50 references, 30-second output, 4K and wireframe editing, and there is no beta programme this time, so the cost is still the big unknown.

  4. 04

Spec ad competitions have gone mainstream. ExpressVPN's drew around 20,000 entries, and once a 30-second multi-shot ad is one generation away, entries could run into the hundreds of thousands, so judging and quality control are the next problem.

  5. 05

AI fan films are reaching studio quality, and the IP question is coming. Warcraft, Dragon Ball Z and Star Wars fan films ran 12 to 32 minutes each. The ones that dropped viewers straight into their world lost the non-fans, and Andrew asked where fan art ends and stepping on someone's IP begins.

  6. 06

Sound and voice still decide the score. The Well's two sound designers won it a clean sweep of 1s, while HOTH and NOCTARI lost points for voices that didn't fit the faces, or that Andrew had heard on other characters before.

Seedance 2.5 teaser

By ByteDance

The commercial teaser for Seedance 2.5: reports of abnormal incidents around the world, people turned into paper cutouts, and a higher dimensional entity repairing it all. The features everyone is talking about are 50 references, 30-second output, 4K and wireframe editing, which Chris reads as Seedance's answer to Google Omni and Runway Aleph's video inpainting. There is no beta programme this time. Chris is most excited about 30 seconds of audio input for his music videos. The open question for everyone: how much will it cost?

“30 seconds output, 50 individual references, and wireframe editing is pretty much the biggest leap I've seen in the video space.”Chris Branch · ▶ 8:51

Jeep Ad

By Highdive

A three-minute Jeep film with no dialogue, a single tyre as the hero and a song carrying the whole story. Highdive built the vehicles to millimetre-level production accuracy and used Google's Veo and Luma Dream Machine to scout locations, develop characters and generate scenes. It's a commissioned ad rather than a spec, which Chris called a really big thing. The chat thought the song sounded like Suno and Shazam couldn't find it, though nobody could confirm it. Straight 1s bar a single 2, the most 1s of the night, and Andrew's pick of the week.

“If I was someone who made that ad, let's say 10 years ago, and I'm looking at, well, AI can do this, I would either be so excited or I'll be worried.”Andrew Davis · ▶ 18:56

ExpressVPN Ad (Competition 1st Place)

By Lore Alive Studios

The first-place winner of ExpressVPN's ad competition, which drew around 20,000 entries. Lore Alive Studios made it with Nano Banana Pro, Seedance 2 and Kling 3.0, and we heard the GenHQ community swept first, second and third. It's a short, snappy gag about travelling with a robot bodyguard for the internet. Andrew liked the little background details but preferred the ExpressVPN spot we showed last week, and the chat settled firmly on 2s. The bigger story was the competition itself: what happens to judging when Seedance 2.5 makes an entry one generation away?

“You imagine that friction point barrier to entry. You're going to get hundreds of thousands of entries.”Chris Branch · ▶ 25:36

Secondhand (Samsung Galaxy S9 Ad + BTS)

By Simon Meyer

Simon Meyer wanted to sell his cracked old Samsung Galaxy S9, so he made it a high-end commercial: a massive five-inch display, a battery that only works on the cable, and a deadpan plea that he needs the money. The behind-the-scenes was the real lesson. Simon shot the actual phone against a wall with window light, then ran Invideo's Agent One as his crew: assistant director, production designer, voiceover agent and a digital DP writing his long multi-shot prompt. Chris gave it a 1. The vote split 7, 4 and 2.

“Simon, I think we've seen you win at least six AI competitions with hundreds of thousands of dollars. I'm not quite sure you need the money for your old smartphone.”Chris Branch · ▶ 27:33

2028 Olympic Trailer

By Glenn Batkin

Nineteen seconds of motion graphics from Glenn Batkin, made while experimenting with OpenArt Director, OpenArt's new director agent, alongside ElevenLabs. Glenn wrote that it felt more like vibe directing than prompting, and Chris ran with it: plenty of creators now talk into Wispr Flow, let Claude build the long prompt and never type one themselves. Chris gave it a straight 1 for the aesthetic and the sound, and Andrew said it could open a BBC sports show. Glenn was watching in the chat as the vote came in 8, 1 and 1.

“Everyone talks about vibe coding. Can we talk about vibe directing, please?”Chris Branch · ▶ 34:36

ALUCARD: TIME, Chapter V

By ZeroAIStudio

Chapter V of ALUCARD, an independent cinematic AI horror series from ZeroAIStudio. At 25 minutes long, we showed the first five. It felt very Van Helsing to Chris: creatures, dark woods and two wolves snarling at each other for so long the chat decided they were going to kiss. He found it a slow build and said he'd need the full chapter to judge it. The creator dropped into the chat to say he made it all on his own, mainly with Seedance 2, and Marco reminded everyone that pulling off 25 minutes is hard. A mixed vote, leaning 1.

THOLIN, Episode 01

By Karim Yourself

Episode one of Karim's AI cyberpunk series, an eight-minute episode made by two people in two weeks: a back-street surgeon, bricked gear and something growing towards the brain stem. Karim wrote the opening track in Suno and Chris remastered it. It's predominantly Seedance, some of it at 4K and some upscaled from 1080p and 720p. Chris said nobody a year ago would have believed AI could look like this, and Andrew praised how well every voice matched its character. The 1s rolled in while Karim watched from a call.

“Sometimes that voice just doesn't match the character, but this one, it really felt it did.”Andrew Davis · ▶ 52:22

Arthas: The Price of Vengeance (Warcraft AI Fan Film)

By Avaren

A Warcraft fan film from Avaren: in the frozen wastes of Northrend, Prince Arthas takes his final steps towards Frostmourne and leaves the man he once was behind. We showed five minutes of fifteen. Chris doesn't know the Warcraft world and still found it a brilliant way in, while Andrew, a fan of David Gemmell's fantasy novels, felt right at home. Both were struck by the standard fan films can reach now, and Andrew predicted Grand Theft Auto fan films within six months. A short poll, but a strong one.

“As far as a fan film goes, isn't it wild the standards to which you can do fan films these days?”Chris Branch · ▶ 1:00:20

Dragon Ball Z: Frieza Saga, Multiverse

By J2 Industries

A multiverse take on Dragon Ball Z's Frieza Saga from J2 Industries. Krillin and Gohan have gathered six of the seven Dragon Balls and are holding out for Goku when they run into Frieza's raid parties. The full film is 32 minutes, and we showed five. Neither host knows the franchise, and the chat saw Power Rangers, Thanos and Jaden Smith. Chris wished it had introduced its world for non-fans instead of dropping you straight in, and Andrew asked where fan art ends and stepping on someone's IP begins. The most divided vote of the night.

“If I was the person who owned Dragon Ball Z, where does it go from fan art to hold on, you're stepping on my IP now?”Andrew Davis · ▶ 1:10:44

Pomegranate (Official Trailer)

By Gossip Goblin

The one-minute official trailer for Gossip Goblin's Pomegranate: after centuries of simulated wars, wives and wonders, a jaded aristocrat visits his neighbourhood dream spool dealer looking for anything that feels real. Gossip Goblin, real name Zack London, built a huge audience on vertical sci-fi, and this is a step into a longer cinematic film with his original characters. Chris, who sat on a panel with him in Cannes, sees his love of Midjourney all over the look, and gave it a straight 1. The full piece is expected on 22 July.

“He's a big fan of Midjourney and you can really see this style overall in the aesthetic of the pieces.”Chris Branch · ▶ 1:14:34

The Well

By Dorian, Daniel

Dorian and Daniel's animal noir, inspired by the Brothers Grimm tale The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats. A detective won't accept that the dead man at the bottom of the well simply slipped, and a detail about thin ice gives the game away. The chat called it Fargo goes Animal Farm and True Pet Detective, and Andrew saw Fargo in it too. Both hosts singled out the sound, credited to two sound designers. A clean sweep of 1s, and Andrew's number two of the week.

“We couldn't have dreamed about this a year ago, man.”Chris Branch · ▶ 1:22:40

JACKPOT (Sci-Fi Comedy Short Film)

By Dair Karakeev

A sci-fi comedy from Dair Karakeev. In a far future where Earth is buried under garbage, salvage worker Chris finds the last living tree, and the tree talks him out of cutting it down with a treasure map to ancient gold under several billion tons of rubbish. Chris spotted Wall-E, Antz and almost Optimus Prime in it, and Andrew loved the back and forth between the two characters so much he wondered if it was his favourite of the day. The on-screen poll played up, but the chat came through with 1s.

“I just like the dialogue between the two characters.”Andrew Davis · ▶ 1:31:18

HOTH: The First Wave (1960s Star Wars Film)

By Warden Cinematics

Star Wars reimagined as a 1960s war film by Warden Cinematics: Sergeant Kess and his squad are the first wave onto a remote ice world, and Imperial intelligence is optimistic as ever. We showed five minutes of nearly thirteen. Andrew liked the 60s idea but not the voices, and the chat agreed the likenesses outshone them. It felt more Michael Caine or James Bond than Star Wars. Both hosts landed on a 2, Chris despite loving Star Wars, and Mary in the chat reckoned it had been kept in the archive for an HR violation.

“I like the idea of the 60s thing. I don't know about the voices.”Andrew Davis · ▶ 1:39:02

NOCTARI 3: Shadow Realm

By Black Eye Media AB

Part three of Black Eye Media AB's sci-fi fantasy series, with a Wizard of Oz twist: a Scarecrow with strange powers, a Tin Man, and a crew pulled through an anomaly into a mirror-image universe where they're not in Kansas anymore. We watched five minutes of twelve. Chris gave it a 1.3 for the sound design, character design, editing and pacing. Andrew was a 1.4 or 1.5 but recognised voices he'd heard on other characters, even earlier in the show. After a run of sci-fi, the chat confessed to being sci-fi blind, and the vote tipped narrowly to 2s.

“If you're using Seedance there's only a few voices you can use.”Andrew Davis · ▶ 1:47:07

Music Video Intro for TRUICE

By Stéphane Davi, Aurelie Scour

The AI opening of a music video for TRUICE, Dr Dre's son, by Stéphane Davi and Aurelie Scour: a police pursuit of a black Lamborghini, helicopters overhead and crashes on the freeway. The opening was made entirely with Seedance, and the rest of the video was shot on green screen with a lot of compositing, so we only played the AI section. Chris called it a straight 1 with superb sound design, and the blend of real performers and AI stunts is where he sees music videos heading. The chat rated the crash dynamics and the clean upscale.

“You can see why music videos are going in this direction, right? With green screens, real people, and then using AI for crazy scenes like crashing Lamborghinis, helicopters.”Chris Branch · ▶ 1:50:10

BUNKER BOYZ

By Private Island

Private Island's merciless satire of Silicon Valley's survivalist billionaires, as a rap music video. Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman get roasted over Mars rockets, ketamine, the metaverse and copyright, alongside a longevity obsessive who is 60% titanium. The chat thought Sam Altman looked photoreal and, with a moustache, like Tony Hinchcliffe. After a run of heavy sci-fi, both hosts said the show needed exactly this, and Paul's pick to close paid off. Ten 1s and a single 3, plus people messaging Chris privately to call it their favourite.

“It was satire, bit of fun, but you need that.”Andrew Davis · ▶ 1:56:23

Questions this episode answers

What was AI LIVE Episode 125 about?

Episode 125 (7 July 2026) was headlined by Private Island's Bunker Boyz, an AI music video roasting Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman. Chris Branch hosted with co-host Andrew Davis, broke down the Seedance 2.5 teaser and reviewed 15 AI pieces live, including Highdive's three-minute Jeep ad, Simon Meyer's Samsung Galaxy S9 ad made with Invideo's Agent One, and AI fan films set in the worlds of Warcraft, Dragon Ball Z and Star Wars. The Well topped the audience vote with a clean sweep of 1s, while the Jeep ad drew the most 1s.

What did the Seedance 2.5 teaser show?

The teaser showed objects and whole scenes being transformed mid-shot, such as a building turning into blocks or a house of cards. The features being discussed were 50 references, 30-second output, 4K and wireframe editing, which Chris Branch saw as Seedance's answer to Google Omni and Runway Aleph's video inpainting. Unlike earlier releases, there was no beta programme, and pricing was still unknown.

How was Simon Meyer's Samsung Galaxy S9 ad made?

Simon Meyer filmed his real phone against a plain wall with a window as the main light, then used Invideo's Agent One as a set of crew members: an assistant director, a production designer agent for the visual style and start frames, a voiceover agent, and a digital DP agent that wrote a long multi-shot prompt for the video. He edited the results together and added motion graphics.

Which piece won the audience vote on AI LIVE Episode 125?

The Well by Dorian & Daniel topped the YouTube chat vote as the night's only clean sweep, 12 votes for 1. Highdive's Jeep ad came second with the most 1s, 16 and a single 2, just ahead of Dair Karakeev's JACKPOT with 12 votes for 1 and a single 2. Gossip Goblin's Pomegranate trailer came fourth.

Are AI fan films a problem for the owners of the IP?

After the Dragon Ball Z fan film, the hosts agreed it is a fine line. Andrew Davis asked where fan art turns into stepping on someone's IP, especially when characters do things the owner wouldn't want, and Chris Branch said some rights holders will take it badly while others will embrace it to grow their fandom. Both expected fan films, including ones set in Grand Theft Auto, to keep growing.

Show notes

Chris was back in the studio with jet lag and a pair of red glasses, alongside Andrew Davis and producer Paul Parsons. The show opened with the Seedance 2.5 teaser and a goodbye to Fable 5 being included in Claude plans, after a week in which Chris used it to build a new AI LIVE site and download the show's videos.

Fifteen pieces went to the vote, with fewer clips than usual because more of them were five-minute slices of much longer films. The ads came first, from Highdive's Jeep film to Simon Meyer's agent-directed Samsung spoof, and Glenn Batkin's OpenArt Director trailer gave the show its phrase of the week: vibe directing. Then came a run of fan films and sci-fi worlds, from Warcraft and Dragon Ball Z to a 1960s Star Wars, before Paul closed with two music videos.

Creator Sessions are moving to Wednesdays, starting the next day with Uncanny Harry (Ryan Phillips) for an hour at 4pm UK. Gossip Goblin, Cavan the Kid, Karim and Marco are all lined up for future sessions, and Chris is co-hosting a London takeover event on 30 July.
