Welcome to the Future Vision XPRIZE takeover
0:05 [music] And we are back, ladies and gentlemen. Knock knock. Afroofutcher is at the door straight away. Legend in the building. Justin Hatne as well. Oh my god. Two legends in the building. Hi. I like chicken with a nice uh chicken emoji there. Oh mate, we we got a special special episode today. We got Particle Panic as well. Oh, mate, we got some serious talented people tuning in straight away. [laughter] Exciting exciting times. And uh yeah, if you're if you're not seeing it, like because I haven't updated all of the LinkedIn [music] and YouTube
0:50 and everything, it's just been such a crazy busy week. We're doing a special edition of the live show today, which is the X-P prize takeover. So, uh, usually on this show, we'd be watching ads, we'd be watching films, we'd be watching, uh, music videos, we'd be watching everything, mate, wouldn't we? Basically, anything submitted that we think is cool in AI. And instead, today, we are watching exactly the X-P prize entries only, which is pretty cool. Um, and we're going to be showcasing to you what the X-P prize is. We have a little intro video. Uh that's really cool. But how you doing, mate? It's good to see you as well. Likewise. Yeah. Very good. Just uh my girlfriend and son are away. They they they've gone to another country. So it's this is my holiday now.
1:36 So I get to just catch up on stuff. So and then catch up on some TV shows. I just watched Ted Lasso. I don't know if you watch Ted Lasso. Oh yes. Ted Lasso. Uh, well, Ted Lasso is always good. So, yeah, watching that in the moment. Well, the Premier League got me so hyped this weekend. We should have won Newcastle. It was a lastm minute penalty against Liverpool. We were very unlucky. But to see Man United lose and Spurs lose on the opening weekend was exactly what you want from the Premier League. [laughter] I was like, let's go. We've got other legends. What else have you been? Oh, really good, mate. Really, really good. Uh, been so busy. It's like I said, just non-stop. We thought August, everyone's on holiday, you know, it's going to be a little bit quieter. We can do our own projects [music] and work on our own IP.
2:24 No, obviously it's exactly thrown a wrench uh the other way around and we're stupid stacked and sort of panicking, you know, cuz there's just so much to do with two people that we're just like, how do we get through it all and everything? Look at all these legends in the building tuning in. God, it's all over the world as well. We've got so much talent, too. Stunning England, San Fran, of course. Oh, yeah. And we're going to be getting more and more people as the sort of show rolls on cuz we know a lot of you tune in from California where it is really early in the morning for you guys. And so, as you're on the commute, we hear from people, you know, you're tuning in and so when you start commuting, smooth vibes, says Jimmy. Good to see Jimmy in the house as well.
3:10 Good, man. Well guys, um should we talk about the X-P prize? Let's watch the video, I guess. You know, um not everyone tuning in will even know what it is, obviously. Um but, uh it's been a big big deal in the WhatsApp groups and the communities that we're in within, you know, the AI space cuz essentially it's one of the biggest prize money we've ever seen awarded to anything in the space really. So, it's got a lot of the coolest people in the AI space entering it and stuff. And as the show is usually Andrew sort of withheld all of the information, you know, because he does the live reaction to everything going on and and I'm so thankful that he like withholds the information so that he can have a true live reaction to it all and everything like that. So um without further ado, Paul uh and I should have introduced Paul, producer Paul is in the background as well if you don't know the show.
4:02 Uh, we have a third member of the cast that's never on screen, but he runs the whole thing behind the scenes. Paul is in the background, and you'll no doubt see him turn up in the chat as well. We got Kenya in the building. I'm seeing, man, more San Francisco as well. Oh, international boat train from Aaron as well, the legend on uh, you know that story, right? On Richard. Oh, the Virgin boat, mate, is crazy. We need a shot once in a while. One day, one day we'll bring Paul on. Paul, you have to jump on the screen. He got his camera sorted out today after much ado when we had some camera issues earlier. So, we he is in the building. I can see him in the backdrop. I can actually see him today,
4:49 which is nice. But yeah, hello Paul says Daniela. Yes, let's do it then, mate. I think let's watch um for anyone that's uninitiated exactly what this X-P prize takeover is all about, shall we? You know, this exists because of a TV show. And I'm not exaggerating. Martin Cooper, the man who invented the mobile phone, said he built it because he saw it on Star Trek. You saw Captain Kirk flip open a communicator and thought, "Hey, I can make that real." The iPad, it started as a prop on Star Trek 2. Video calls, Star Trek. Voice assistants, Star Trek again. Props became products. Fiction became multi-trillion dollar industries. So, here's the question. What's a vision of the future that excites you? What stories offer humanity a hopeful, compelling, and abundant vision of what's to come? We're putting up $3 million in prize money, plus millions in film financing [music] to make your movie.
What is the Future Vision XPRIZE?
5:37 Our program in partnership with the X-Prize Foundation, Google, and ranged media partners is called the Future Vision X-Prize, and it's one of the world's largest competition to address humanity's greatest need, hope. Create a trailer or short film, three minutes or less. Show us in the world your vision of the future. That vision could become the next blueprint for all of humanity. Find out more and register at futurevisionexpriseze.com. So now you probably see why so many people were so hyped about this one. Uh obviously huge amounts of money being offered there. And just from my producer notes, again, thanks to Paul, although Justin is saying, "Keep Paul hidden in the notes I saw," which is pretty damn hilarious. [laughter] Um, yeah. So, create a threeinut sci-fi trailer essentially depicting an optimistic
6:25 abundant future for humanity, which we love because we get so many dystopian nightmare futures, you know, submitted to us on the show on a regular basis. So, really like that switch there. The grand prize winner is going to get 2.6 million uh to turn their vision into a feature film. And there's over $1 million in prizes for the runners up as well. And as we discovered through the curation for this show, many people made real films, you know, like they had real actors, real cameras, real directors, real sets, real cast members, and also they accepted AI entries as well, which was all we're going to show on this show today. Although, we did find some really interesting ones that were filmed on camera with real directors as well. So, it was all guns blazing, you know, in terms of this one.
7:12 Kind of crazy, huh? And just off of that, mate, what do you think? Like, seeing that trailer, it's pretty nuts, huh? Yeah. First off, I didn't realize Star Trek was responsible for so many things, you know? I don't know why. I never really got into Star Trek. In fact, actually, tell a lie, I got into Star Trek when I watched a film. There was a film where I think it came out around about the mid 2000s. That Star Trek, that was the first time I watched it and was like, "Oh, this is really interesting." So, um, but I didn't realize so many things was created by Star Trek. But secondly, that prize, three million [clears throat] prize, you're going to get all of the big dogs entering. Like, not just everyone. Um, that's a And not just that, everyone leveled up, too. I see my brother Kareem tuning in. This is one of the sickest things I think he's ever made.
8:01 Of all the stuff he showed me, I was like, "Mate, this is next level." And he got over half a million views on X when he posted it. And even the artwork when he posted that got 400 plus thousand and it's still rising. So like you know serious people and seriously top work of theirs as well which is what this why it was so worthy of a takeover truly is when I was like seeing this in the real dreams chat and the other group chats that were in I was just like oh my god these are next level. Even Paul said the thumbnails are really nice on YouTube, you know, to the detail. People are like gone next uh next level for this one. So yeah, it really brought out the best in people in a time when people are on holiday and you know, Seance 2.5 had just dropped and stuff like that.
8:48 So um people were even trying to last minute cram in Sea Dance 2.5 obviously because it's so much better for natural looks and um next level stuff. So yeah, kind of crazy. And we've picked uh I think in total about 15 to show today because we've got roughly three minute entries for each and we want to have a breakdown. And many of the people actually that are watching right now are some of the ones that we've picked. So thank you very much for joining. For everyone in the chat, if you actually entered this competition, just put a two in the chat just so we know if anyone who is actually in the chat entered this competition. Be interesting to see. Put a two. I think we're gonna see a bunch of twos coming into the chat right now, honestly, because I think I can see at least six or seven people
9:33 um whose whose entries we've got here. Hey, we got Dale as well, the real robot tuning in. Man, we got to have you on for a creative watch. Yeah. Yeah. So many of your things. And yeah, look, all of these guys, look, it's um we got Particle Panic, we got Bu and Kareem, I know entered and he hasn't added a two yet. There you go. So, there's even more like um there's serious people that have done this and uh like like I said, it's really cool. Hey Zed, what's going on man? Thanks for tuning in. Absolute legend in the house in the chat. Yeah, exactly. It is an allstar chat. Where's the rest of the public? Come on, guys. Get the word out there. If you're watching this right now, spread us around in the groups. I'm live so I can't be spreading the message.
10:21 Get some more people in here. This is crazy what we're about to watch for real. I love what Flory said. Flory 8 said, "I learned English from Captain Kirk and the original Star Trek 40 plus years ago." I love that. Hey, I see my buddy Elliot as well. We met in Can. Nice to see you, Elliot. Thanks for dropping in. Another legend, very talented person in the chat. Spirit as well. Let's go. Let's go. Like I said, allstar watching cast right now. We need to do these um in with Wonder, you know, from Justin who's tuning in. We need to do stuff with Marcus Grip and do some joint collabs because I see all the same faces and the same people in the chat as well. But anyway, let's watch the first one, guys, where we're already like uh 10 minutes into the show and what we want to do is have a real breakdown from people that are watching.
11:08 If you're willing, you know, to tell us about how you made what you made. As I said, many of the twos that we just saw in the chat are actually the ones that we've chosen. Um, we've went through so many. Honestly, there was so many entered into this. It was kind of hard to pick 15. So, we're going to try and get through them. This first one is made by a team, two teams actually. One team is called Avaran and the other team is called the Blue Horizon. And they're both individual groups that sort of collabed on their own entry to this. Um, the blurb I've got for this one is that in a near future, transformed by artificial intelligence, humanity is solved problems once thought permanent, yet the world continues to deteriorate. At the med uh at the Meridan Institute, researcher Elias begins to question whether humanity's
Convergence by Avaren Studios and The Blue Horizon
11:58 most advanced simulation model was ever meant to provide the actual answers or simply reveal what we have all failed to see. So with all that knowledge, let's check it out. You'll figure it out, right? And now another warm day across much of the country. Highs near 100 in Phoenix, mid 90s in Dallas, and 93 in New York. Light winds. Demonstrations continued today following last month's decision to restrict public access to the convergent model.
12:43 Institutes remain exempt. But should public access eventually be restored. I don't think we're ready for that. This isn't just a new model. Artificial intelligence changed almost every measure of human progress. Energy became abundant. Food shortages became increasingly rare. By almost every metric, things got better. And somehow the world kept getting worse. How many times have we run it? Enough. We've made the questions narrower, more precise, and we're still no closer to an answer. So, the model isn't ready. I'm not sure the model is the problem.
13:33 We spent centuries becoming experts [music] at studying pieces. We forgot the whole. You [music] know you're not supposed to do that, right? What are you doing? This has nothing to do with her. What if it did?
14:21 [music] What are you expecting [music] it to do? Save us. That's what I thought. I was wrong. The model isn't going to save us. We are. Elias, something's wrong. It's exceeding every safety threshold. [music] Look, it's a tree. I understand now. Maybe [music] we were never going to see it without crossing the line. Don't [music] stop it.
15:09 [music] Wow. Wow. I mean, straight away you're thinking like all the categories you've got to actually think about here, you know, like how good was it as a premise? How good was the pacing? How good was the color grading? How good was the sound design? How good was this as a trailer? You know, like uh how much would I actually want to watch the movie? So, for a lot for me, yeah, that is the key. I'm going to watch because um somebody put in the chat, who is it? Uh going to give them Oh, the voting should have said the polls are now open. We are doing polling. One for what? You thought that was awesome. Two you thought that was okay and three you thought that was not for me. Before you carry on, mate. Sorry. You go. Yeah. No, it's all right. Um for four films said like when it comes to the polls
How do you judge a three-minute trailer?
15:59 like everyone's going to be quite high. So I think we need to look at it on those things that you mentioned. So for example, how much does it answer the actual brief? And also, yes, how much like would you want to watch this film? Like if this was an actual film, so imagine it's a trailer and you're and the film is on Netflix. Like would you click watch or would you be like, "All right, I might watch it later and then eventually like that's what it's going to come down to, isn't it? you cuz this is like a premise whereby even if it's not the most visually stunning now the premise could be the thing that you actually want to watch, you know, as opposed to the quality of the entry visually or soundwise. But it ticked all those boxes. It had very good sound design. I noticed that straight away. Probably real music didn't sound AI generated. It sounded like a real orchestral thing.
16:48 I thought the pacing worked really well with the violins and the sort of buildup of the, you know, the dramaticized uh violins as to the trailer. It didn't give too much away, you know, which is what a good trailer does, you know, it didn't give away the whole movie. It sort of gave you the inkling as to what the movie would be. But I'm not one of those that was like, I want to watch this movie based on that trailer. So, I'm gonna have to put it in the two category if I'm going to be honest. Like, I think visually it was stunning. Audibly it's stunning, but I'm sort of in the two category with a lot of the people here where I I don't know if I'd be clicking that thumbnail on Netflix as you say. Yeah, I think it's um it's Yeah, it's a really interesting concept.
17:33 I really like I think it's the sound that gets me here. Like I really like the way they done the sound. I think that's the thing that got me originally. What I liked when he was sitting there and it had the video uh the TV at the background and he looked like he was just it looked like he was meditating but you just saw more of a shadow. I like that as well. Um I felt it was a bit slow to get like into it because you've only got three minutes. We've almost got to like hit the ground running. And also interesting to see because this is the first one how it compares to the others because it was just like a normal Tuesday how we do it and then we can just say all right it's a one or a two because we look at it it's a competition now we've got to kind of see how it works with the others as you said the pacing like would you want to know more and less but I think um I think the uh where is it is this
18:26 you just nailed it yes it's Avaran and the They're in the chat right now as well. Oh, that's awesome. Thank you so much for tuning in. No. Yeah. Yeah. You were the first one. You were the first video that we played, mate. I think you just nailed it. Actually, if this had been submitted to us on the regular show, straight ones, it was so good in every category, you know? Like, I was like, visually, this is so impressive. The audio is so good. The pacing's really nice and the mix of it all really nice. I, you know, just personal taste, I guess. Is like the premise of it wasn't like getting me straight away. I wasn't hooked like you say instantly as to what this was and why I would want to watch it in Netflix and stuff like that. But again, it's personal taste here and as we say with the show every week like remember when we watched last week it was a world of Warcraft like fan film
19:16 and people were loving it. They were like this nostalgia, you know, this is perfect for me and I don't know that world. I don't whatsoever. I'm I like it visually, but I'm not bought into the storyline because I don't know the world, you know, to know how faithful it was and all of that. So, it kind of had that feeling. Here's interesting thing from the creator of it, and they said, I will be honest, the story and the way I wanted to portray it is a way is way more interesting. I do feel like I wasn't able to give much or the best in the trailer. Oh, well, that's very honest feedback and thank you so for being so transparent about that. And I'm sure that many people as well had a very tight deadline because if you're doing and I know the Blue Horizon's doing loads of projects as well. Um you know we've seen them all over Instagram taking over the World Cup stuff and they even did the 433 stuff that we saw.
20:07 Um so you know we know as well we were a busy advertising agency and getting this in and stuff. You might have wanted more time to be able to expand on your ideas and make it into something else. So thank you so much for being transparent about that. Yeah. And also, Black Light White gave you some really good feedback, which I completely agree. Keep building it. Exactly. And expand on it if the story is good. Good stuff. Exactly. And we're all like trying to be really constructively criticism here, you know, like we're all trying to bring the best out of each other for sure. And I don't want anyone to take any offense by any of the feedback that we give later. This is just the whole premise of the show. Both the public votes on it as you see from the poll, and we will give you our criticism, you know, as to what we think you could do to improve it. Um, and that's it really, you know, like that's the whole idea of the show.
20:54 So, yeah, visual citizen said there is a real actor reflected in the meeting. I wonder if they cleared permission to use his likeness and voice. So, I guess that's something for Avar to answer. Um, but what I will say before it kind of goes uh just to let everyone know, we're going to be showing a number of videos. This competition is a mixture of AI, hybrid, and real. So, we're just going to be showing the AI ones or the hybrid ones as well. So, there's going to be some ones that you might look at and be like, "Oh, that was amazing. Why didn't you play it?" It might be because that's an actual real film, not AI. Yeah. And Paul's done a really good job. Actually, I've got some notes about which ones are hybrid pieces for any clear ups if we don't have the creator watching live.
21:40 But as um as I said earlier, if you are willing to discuss, you know, how you made it, why you made it and stuff in the chat, we'd be very very thankful. Also, you know, we may have a creator session for you in the future. We have multiple shows that we do. This is just a a regular show that's being taken over by this, but we do want to interview a lot of you directors in the future because some of this stuff is next level. Actually, I saw, like I said, my buddy Elliot, who I met in K, who's the next one that we're going to show, very talented, um, made this piece called After the Stars. Um, so the premise I've got for this one, and Elliot, please tell us more, you know, like I said, whatever you're willing to share about how you made this, why you made this, and everything else. When Caleb North, a dying astronaut, becomes patient zero of a neurochnology
After the Stars by Eliott Mogenet
22:28 that allows communication after death, his aranged daughter Iris, must make first contact with one of his memories at the time. And each attempt erases a little bit more of him. So, as I think we're right in saying, this is a hybrid uh piece, Elliot. But again, uh anything you've got more about this? Um, I think yeah, it's a short hybrid production shot on an RI Alexi Mini LF with actors and an experienced crew, professional LED volume stage, uh, and a pipeline of environments and postp production. I think you use seed dance and nano banana. But again, any more details that you've got to write to us, um, please do let us know. I see Lola in the chat as well. Nice. Thanks for tuning in, Lola. But yeah, with all of that as I've explained it, let's watch it.
23:37 Iris, Dad, there she is. How [music] long does he have? Three or four weeks perhaps. I'm sorry. Where's daddy [music] going? Do you know where daddy's going? To space. To space. [music] All his life, my father reached for the sky. He believed one day we'd all have the chance to be up there. And now he's gone on his last journey with stars. Hello. [music] Is there a nurse down here or a bathroom?
24:26 What? [music] I'm 65, buddy. What the My name is Caleb North. I don't know where I am. I don't even know [music] if I'm still alive. I know you. I've seen you before. But I need to get home. I keep seeing things. Lights. Music. Come on. Give it to me. I don't have a word for the rest. [music] You won't believe what I found.
25:16 Voyager one is unbelievable. Your father is the last hope we have. [music] I just buried my father. His body and baby, but not his mind. [music] I can't tell [music] you more, but he will try to reach me. But how? This is you, Dad. And this is your car on the moon. Your father wanted to be first. He is sleeping deeper. We need to make contact before he disappears [music] forever. It's going to be okay. It's going to [music] be okay.
26:18 That's right. Daddy's going to space. Nice. There's something you can always say about this, right? When I see this, I'm like, hybrid is the future because real actors, even though Sea Dance 2.5 is amazing, are real actors. And you can sort of see it, you know, like there's no faking a lot of the scenes that we saw here with Seance 2.5. That's for sure. The voting is now open. I should have said at the top of the thing, um, one awesome, two okay, three not for me. Uh, I could just imagine the sort of like LA scenes of the actors in this like sort of like digital like surrounded by digital screens sort of trying [clears throat] to picture, you know, the vast landscapes and stuff that you were putting them in, Elliot.
27:10 So, it's kind of awesome to think about that. Um, I really like this one. I like the characters. I like the references. I like the pacing. when the music dropped as well, like threequarters of the way through and we got the drums and the sort of crescendo of it all. That was really nice as well with the uh violin buildups and everything like that. Um, what did you think of this all, mate? I think it's going to be interesting to see what this looks like compared to the others. And what I mean by that is I can see most of them being quite dark when it comes to the sci-fi where this didn't come across quite dark. This actually came across as well. It has to be utopia, mate. It has to be a sort of utopic future. So it's like within the brief to have a sort of optimistic, you know, like Yeah. Yeah. It can't be dark by definition.
27:58 Sure. Sure. Sure. Yeah. I don't know. I came across as this was quite like the good had a nice soundtrack, right? I don't know. It just came across as like really nice and I was thinking this is this might be different to the others. But yeah, like once you start throwing dogs and animals in, you've always got me. So that's the other thing as well. I'll tell you the thing that I really think of is like there are so many dystopian sort of like color palettes and worlds to draw from but there's not many utopic futures you know film pal not really much like literature or references you can have you know so it is more like going to be very different these types of entries you know compared to what we usually see color palettes designwise stylewise and it is all going to have this optimistic sort of feeling and
28:45 yeah so where do to avoid the cliches. That's the real truth of it, you know, like where are you drawing too much much on a reference from something like Interstellar or something but with an optimistic Interstellar or you know um but I really liked you know this sort of general upbeat feeling from this one as well. And uh I do think Paul said in our group chat that we've got like a behind the scenes that you've made Elliot. So if we want to I think this will might help if we have anything like this. If you guys have made an entry and you've done a behind the scenes. Let us know in the group chat now so that we can sort of download it and then uh we just found this one on the fly, Elliot. So, we're going to play this one straight away and uh see what we've got. 6 weeks ago, I sat down to write my first hybrid film.
Behind the scenes of a hybrid AI film
29:31 And nobody could really tell me what one was supposed to look like, which part should be real, which part should be made with AI. And honestly, I never expected it to turn out the [music] way it did. I've been a tech foundonder for about 10 years and two years ago I started [music] directing short films but I'd never put the two worlds together. So After the stars is a freeminute trailer and it's competing for the future vision XP prize $2.5 million [music] and the chance to make the whole feature with Hollywood producers behind it. I'm going to show you all of it. Building a world before we had a [music] single frame casting the actors. Two days on set, real crew, real camera, and then post, where half the film still didn't exist. The days it worked [music] and the days it didn't. Yeah, everyone is trying to predict what's going to happen in [music] the industry in the next
30:20 2 3 years. What AI actually does inside a real production? I'd rather just show you what it looks like [music] right now. [music] [music] again like super transparent about where we're at and the fact that this is actually happening in real time. Elliot, that's such a good uh note for you behind the scenes. Like we know the biggest uh hybrid production studio in the world is Dave Clark and Promise. They've just announced Disney. They've just announced other massive things. They're still experimenting with all of these gray screens, LED screens, blue screens, green screens, hybrid actors. We know that this is the thing that's ongoing.
31:10 So, very transparent again about your um like some days weren't good. You know, not many people knew what was going on and it would didn't really exist and all of that. Like, uh very authentic and really appreciate you taking the feedback the way you are. Um, yeah. I think that's what it is is we're all here experimenting for the first time. I think this is the most effort anyone's put into nearly everything. Obviously, you had real actors and LA set and all of that extra level of like stuff. So, yeah, I think also it must be quite difficult especially if because you haven't got the the film. So, most of the times you've got the film and then you build the trailer. This time you've got to build the trailer and then you've got to think to yourself,
Why is it so hard to make a trailer before the film exists?
31:57 what would it actually what would the story be? I've got it in my head. I might write the script or I've got the story roughly how it is in my head. But to make a trailer out of something that's here when you haven't got all of the parts, it must be quite difficult. So yeah, big round of applause to everyone who ended. Okay. You know, actually, um, one of our future sessions is with the legend Diane Lelo, aka Afroofutcher, who's tuning in hopefully still, and she says quite often to me in private message that she loves deadlines. You know, she works really well under deadlines because it forces her to get things out and she works really well under these constraints. What I think this X-P prize has done is it's made people force them to go, how would I actually make a movie? You know, if I don't win this prize or if I don't do this, at least I'm going to have the incentive
32:45 to push myself the furthest I've ever gone with this in order to make something much bigger afterwards potentially with the learnings of this entry. And so that's why I think it's such a good thing that people have done that extra mile is just to get those learnings to make other things regardless of the outcome basically, you know, which is really really cool. Parkinson's law is when you put a deadline there. That's a I call that the university the university university deadline. When you're at university, you got three weeks to do something, but you don't start until the night before. So, it's it's that's Parkinson's law what happens there. Hey, mate. I love the fact that you're coming with the actual theories and stuff. That's proper that's you could tell that you're on the on the road doing, you know, consultancy and workshops and
33:31 talks and all this. No, I learned this. I learned this working in live radio. [laughter] you know, if if if you're not ready, if you're not ready at when I was doing it 3:00, which I was doing drive time show, then tough, you know, like you're going to have hundreds of thousands of people listening. So, you had deadlines every single day. So, um I started studying that Parkinson's law and then adding the 8020 principle, then that's how that's one of the best ways you could be productive. Oh, mate, I tell you another thing. You just reminded me. I was speaking to Kareem, who's just landed, by the way, in Luxembourg, and he's tuning in probably from his phone. He showed me the uh quadrant thing, you know, your famous content quadrant that you're like did for a long time. He showed me the business quadrant that no doubt inspired this sort of as a reference, you know, between a self-employed person and business entreprene
34:30 Quadrant. There we go. Kareem knows it's like is it job self-employed business owner and investor or something like that? Yeah, interesting discussion. Are the trailers being reviewed here from the top 50 list or selected separately? So, we know information on this because we have been in touch with the X-P prize uh organizers and they're actually announcing that top 50 list 2 hours after the end of this broadcast apparently. It could be any time today, but they're aiming for like 2 hours afterwards. Apparently, we're live 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 a.m. in PT time, and they're roughly aiming for midday to announce that top 50 selected list. So, no is the answer. We're not uh reviewing those because we don't know them yet. Uh they will soon be announced, but then next week, we could obviously look at others that have been got in there that we haven't picked in this.
Are these entries from the XPRIZE top 50?
35:21 And no doubt there's loads. I think Paul said earlier rightly that there's going to be lots of unlisted ones, you know, where people wanted private entries and not to sort of publicly be known that they were entering for this and stuff. So, yeah, it's going to be really interesting to see who's actually under the hood. And we've got Henry tuning in, by the way, who is our guest tomorrow. Our very special guest, Henry, is tuning in. We actually have a world premiere with Henry. Uh, so really excited. And make sure you tune back into the show same time tomorrow to watch Henry's episode with us. Yes, legends in the house, mate. And Adrian, who is my friend now. We've met many times in San Francisco. Um, is a Berlin director. Um, we hung out together in Lisbon as well with the Door Brothers. I got to know him quite a lot recently.
Veil of Maya by Adrian Daniel Botnariu
36:09 He also entered this. I don't know if you're tuning in, Adrian. Hopefully, you are. Let us know in the chat if you are and discuss all of the things about what inspired this, mate. If you are watching. If you're not able to watch, then uh hopefully you are there somewhere. I think you will be. So, his piece is called The Veil of Maya and uh here's its blurb. And tell me if I did this justice. Um, Adrian, in a post scarcity future where humanity is harmonized through constant neural connection, a reclusive emotion designer is forced to cure out resulting uh, evolutionary stagnation by integrating a darkness of systems that were designed to suppress it.
36:55 So, quite a really complex premise for this one, but visually I've already seen this one. It's really, really fun. If you are tuning in, mate, let us know about what inspired this and all of that as we watch it. Maya, an intricate mesh woven from emotional patterns billions of minds wide. They included my mother against her will.
37:41 Wait, wait, wait. I want that. Get me that emotion. No heart [music] is ready for that level of complexity. I don't care. I'll sign anything. Nina Caravago. [music] I can imagine that I'm the last guy you would ever speak to.
38:26 I think it's time for you to look out the window now. We [music] built Maya to be the most complex architecture of shared harmony ever created. But lately there's been some incidents. Oh, beautiful harmony. I wish somebody would blow it all up. What happened to the spikes? You want to see them? The pyramid is just a veneer. Whatever doesn't fit up there ends up down here. All this still works perfectly fine.
39:17 Plug in. See how it feels. Contain it. [music] So you decided to age gracefully, [music] but they took your humanity.
40:11 Yes to the audio, says Lola. Um, and beyond flicks is Adrian tuning in. That's his YouTube handle and that's his sort of moniker coming in here. The voting is now open. What did you think of that one? One awesome, two okay, three not for me. He's only just tuned in because I've told him in WhatsApp that we're live. So, if you haven't seen the early part of the show, mate, you know, the first two directors took some really great criticism. They're very transparent about how uh they thought their things went and um yeah, so just, you know, don't be too offended by what we're seeing here from the comments or anything like that. Um it's been the premise of the show so far has been really really great sort of feedback from everyone creators is watching here. So I uh I feel kind of on the spot, you know, and uh I really like this.
40:59 When he sent it to me, I said visually there's something really interesting here. I love the sort of yellow strings and the light going on. This idea of the blue temple, you know, takeover of the um sort of like mind. It's like a neural link type thing, you know. I really like this marble integration as well, like with the futuristic look. I also like the furniture and the interior design of the smooth angles and sort of like uh you know, again, utopic futuristic color palettes and utopic futuristic. It wasn't too on the nose cliche. It felt kind of like a unique world. So, I really like this one. But, um, very different to the others that we saw make, right? Like off straight off the bat, like how and trust me, it's going to get way crazier from here in terms of like how different things get like some of the
41:46 ones that you're going to show are nothing like this whatsoever. But, um, I really liked it. You know, I thought this is his best piece. I told him of all the stuff that he's made so far. I thought these characters, I love the tattoos on her face and the little scars and like, you know, it felt like she was part of a tribe or something, you know, like I really liked it. So, what was your feelings on this one? Yeah, I thought um it'll be interesting to see I really want to see how the judges judge. I'm so curious. That's going to be so because right now we've seen three videos all completely different. Yeah, it's about a utopia. Um, but it's they're so free completely different and it's going to be quite hard to judge this like um like for me I really like the concept of this. I I really like the visuals.
42:36 The thing where I was a bit like, and this is why I was trying to work out what the judges would judge, is I felt like if you look at a trailer, you go, you go from scene to scene quite quick. And then the scene with the woman and the and her that lady there with the tattoos, it kind of showed like it was like a clip from a longer rather than bit to go to here to go to here. And it felt like this was in order where actually a film the trailer is not usually in order. It's like different parts. That's the only thing. But as I said, I thought as a piece it was great. But I I'm just trying to work out how the judges will judge this. So that's going to be Yeah. And as he's pointing out, it isn't actually a utopia. It's more of an optimistic vision, you know?
43:22 So that is open to interpretation, I guess, which is why we're seeing so many different styles of entries. Like none have been even closely related so far. And as I said, this is just going to get more and more wild from here in terms of like completely off the radar like totally different like styles and takes and pacing and everything else. So, but what I like what I like the best out of so far, this is the best beginning. This is the first one where I was like, "Oh, I want to see what's going to really happen. I really like. So if if you saw this on the Netflix, you know that giving that like, you know, you saw the first 30 seconds, that would be the most I'll be like, yeah, I like that bit here. I thought that was really good. Well, that's some really good feedback, you know, for him.
44:09 Um, being the most clickable on Netflix because, as you say, that's the goal, isn't it? If these are literally something that you're like, oh, let's watch this little trailer on Netflix, never heard of this thing before. You watch the first few seconds and you're like, right, I'm hooked. I'm gonna at least watch the first episode or at least give it this or that. Now, it's very different if you're gonna watch a film though because that's like a 120 minute commitment, you know, whereas if it's a show, you're like, "Okay, at least give this a 20 minute 30 minute go, you know, a 12page treatment they're judging alongside the clip." So, again, great like sort of notes from the people that have entered here. I didn't realize that. So, there's actually like I think Winston I think it was Winston said they're looking at 4,000 videos in in a week or something that they've got a look. But here's the thing now.
Will AI be used to judge thousands of entries?
44:55 Now that you've said there's a 12 page I hope I hope it doesn't they don't put it into AI cuz if there's a lot of videos to watch there's a there's a treatment that it needs to tick. The easiest thing is to actually put it into AI and say how many boxes does this tick and if it gets over a certain amount then humans will come into it because I just feel I don't know I just don't feel AI I know what you mean by that and you're just going to miss I know what you mean by that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like I said with the real human actors you could really see it like you can really see it can't you? Yeah. Lola said how can you not get fatigued from watching that many videos? Yeah. Unless there's a lot of judges. I guess there is though. The X-P prize is huge. You know, it's a massive competition.
45:41 So, I'm imagining that they've employed a lot of judges. They promise human eyes will go over every submission. Again, then they must have hired hundreds of people, you know, or have hundreds of people that they can have to watch those videos and the amount of time that they've had to enter them. A full script alongside for the um yeah, to submit for top 20 entries. And as I said, we're going to find out in a couple of hours who the top 50 will be. And then uh we'll see if any of the ones that we've picked for this week's show. We only had a limited scope, you know, of the actual entries of the 4,000 out there. I think we maybe saw 100, 200, something like this. And even that was an overwhelming amount to watch for just me and Paul in the last week or so. You know, it's kind of insane how many people entered into this one.
Voyager 7 by Karim Yourself
46:28 Anyway, hopefully Kareem, my boy, is still tuning in because yeah, as I said, his piece was just crushing it on X. Like I said to him, the landscapes are unbelievable, man. Like his piece is called Voyager 7 and uh the blur that we've got for this one is that humanity ended um scarcity and hailed its planet. Then it built machines in its own image and sent them one way to the stars. They do not come back. They travel. They sample worlds we will never touch and they transmit everything home across years of silence until one of them found something alive. So with all of that, let's check it out.
47:21 I don't need I want you to see something. And you can only see it at night. You see those lights out there?
48:07 Mhm. Those are the last vessels of the Voyager expedition. [music] Do you think they get lonely up there sometimes, so far from home? I don't think so, my love. They won't be lonely. They'll have so [music] many adventures. They won't have time to be sad. What if what they find is [music] scary? Then they'll have to be brave. [music] Do they come back? No. [music] Never ever.
48:53 Never ever, my love. [music] Not even to tell us what they found. That would take a very, very [music] long time. One day I will go with them [snorts] and I'm going to tell them everything about home [music] so they know where to find us. They found it. There is life out there and we are alive to see it. O, how do you know?
49:39 Because that's what we built them for. [music] That's what Mr. Wi said. And what else did you learn in school? He showed us how the engines [music] work. I'd discover tons of aliens and name one after you. You would be so good at it. Oh man. Now you can see why this got over half a million views on X, right? Like the voting is now open for this one, guys. The poll is open. If you thought that was awesome, hit one. If you thought that was okay, hit two. If you uh didn't think that one was for you, hit three. I was like, when he showed this to me, I was like, mate, this is next level.
50:26 This is the best piece I think you've ever done. Uh the sound design gave me goosebumps. Again, re-watching it for like the 15th, 16th time now, I'm like, geez. Uh the chanting Henry says reminds him kind of uh District Nine if you know that. Um again I think there's a lot of great references here. The environments when I watched it the first time mate I was like do more of these you know do more of these epic environments where the people look really small but the daughter and um uh and mother interaction is a great way to tell the sort of trailer narrative as well. I think you know where it's like a scene I thought was great using the daughter to narrate the the whole thing pretty much you know you had that soft voice while like crashes and the world is burning kind of going on in the background it was just it it felt like a trailer it felt like
51:19 click and watch this and and I think that's was really really powerful and that's why I was trying to work out how it's judged is it a threeminut film because if it was actual 3minut film Then it it it like lacks that. Yeah. If it was a trailer for a bigger film, which I think about, then this is getting this is click. This is getting Let me click this. Um, totally watch. I'm sold on the premise. The visuals were incred. Look, just the the landscape. Look at these. I just said build more of these. You know, when I saw it the first time, he added quite a few more after cuz I was just like, mate, they look so so epic. He's so good at that, you know, making just next level visuals. But I loved, like I said, the interaction with the mother and telling that story for the trailer as the narrative overvoice that worked so well
52:12 alongside this. But the character designs for the aliens and stuff were just like crazy, you know, like the uh I love this little mushroom thing. Yeah. Where the baby touches it. Bill, I'd like to better understand now what the conflict of the story really is. Was it the antagonism? Uh, do we stay in the school project? How does it unfold? Um, and that's at Kirim. So, yeah, that would be great to let us know. And that's the curiosity there as well, isn't it? It's like you're kind around to say, I'll explain if I win the 3 million [laughter] and then I'll explain. Too right, mate. I didn't want to give too much of it away. Voyager. What about the other Voyagers or is it Voyager and this is just number seven? Um because again when I saw that then it was like is this the seventh episode or is this that person
53:02 called Voyager 7 like passenger? You'll have to watch the movie he he says exactly mate. Yeah, that's what it is. And some really good votes there in the poll that I think that one got the highest one so far. Um, so yeah, again, mate, I was just like, next level piece, man. Really next level piece. Um, the voting's going to close for that one. For people on LinkedIn, we know you're a few minutes behind. So, it's going to close for that one very shortly. Get your last votes in now if you want to. And trailer did what it's supposed to. And I think that is part of the judging as I said at the top of the show. I'm taking so much into criteria here. Do I want to watch the movie? Is the new thing that you made me think? Then how good is it as a trailer? Then how good is the sound design, character design,
53:48 overall color grading, you know, how many people were involved? Do I actually want to watch that on Netflix? These are all the things. So you're like, how how do you vote on this one? Mad weaker with these entries. But yeah, we're going to have to keep going because I said we've got an hour. So yeah, we might have to just bang bang bang bang bang rattle through a few more. Right. So the next entry is by Tamac. I think I'm pronouncing that right. Oh, no. It's called Tamac. Sorry. The piece is called Tokamac. And it's by Sunny Vad Vadgama. Charming computer, I think is the uh actual handle he goes by. So, a coastal English town that cut itself off from the national grid is being visited by Mac, the human avatar of a fusion reaction, offering free power forever.
TOKAMAK by Sonny Vadgama
54:37 First, he has to earn the right to give it away. Let's check it out. Hello, I'm Mac from the New Energy Initiative. I just wanted to intro introduce. Oi, you lost. No, I'm just exploring. I'm an energy avatar. A what? Avatar? It's like a robot representative of of the fusion reactor they built. No idea. Fusion power, Marjorie. Good luck convincing anyone around here. [snorts] [clears throat] You notice that cheerful fellow going around?
55:25 Who's he talking about? You not seen him yet? Quite easy on the eyes. Sure, he'll be charming and all that, but he's one of them mechanical imposters here to tell us lies about free power, blah blah blah. So, let me get this straight. You're saying that you're actually a that superpower energy thingy? I am. And you're here to help us. That's the plan. Why? Because we messed up before, and it's my job to fix that. Remember why we chose to be independent? Why our village said we'll go it alone?
56:11 [snorts] How's it going to be any different from before? Free unlimited power. Day or night. No more curfews. No more blackouts. I want to believe you, but you're going to need a lot more than pamphlets and words. What would you suggest? Don't just say you care. Show us. Hello everybody. If there's anything you need, something I can assist with, please let me know. I'd like you to mount my dolphin. It's uh like a French palace. We ought [music] to tell him or whatever we call it
57:04 to clear off. [music] You're quite the charmer, aren't you? [music] There has to be a charge for power. You better not be up to any funny business. How could you not know? No funny business. I hope so, cuz I don't think my heart, any of our hearts could take that. I'm so sorry. And I quite want to like you. [music] How different was that from the other sci-fi type entries that we've been seeing?
57:52 Again, I told you, mate, we're going to take some wild twists and turns, and we haven't even got close to the Door Brothers entry yet, which is the most visually different to all of these that you're going to see. But with all that in mind, guys, the voting is now open. Um, one if you thought that was awesome, two if you thought that was okay, three if you thought that was not for you. I really liked it. Um, I really like the characters and the voices and the interactions and the pacing and the comedy. And I like it. It just it maybe I'm biased because it's British and it feels like our type of pacing for comedy. I really liked it. But um yeah, so in that case, I don't think it was visually stunning. You could really see the AI, you know, compared to Kareem's one, which was obviously so much higher visually, qualitywise, but just as a fun like premise like a silly
58:43 character that was like a fusion reactor into a human form. Uh, it's kind of crazy like but also brilliant and yeah, what are your thoughts? I really like this one, but I think it's mental, isn't it? A preference thing. As you said, this is I could be I can imagine watching something on British television and seeing this ad come up for a show that's coming on. Like this is very UK style TV show like where they tell a bit of the story half the way and then half the the rest of the half they're kind of saying what's coming up because this is what happened. It was doing a bit of this and after he had that like meeting with them then he started chopping into what's going up going on in the future. So, I think that's I really like it, but I can see why it's getting a lot more twos because again,
59:35 I know what you mean by that. If you especially if you're not from the UK, you wouldn't kind of understand and it's got to be global, doesn't it? Because it's like a, you know, a global film competition. And so, yeah, maybe in hindsight, as you said, having too much like, you know, British stereotypes or whatever kind of doesn't make it as broadly appealing. Also, um, you know, I think that there were some rules to having it as a future technology, but that's the most wild version of it is to anthropomorphize this as a human, you know, not really sort of like have the technology or, you know, actually just sort of bend the rules completely to make them a character, you know, that was the kind of funny part of it, wasn't it? Um, but yeah, this pacing when it's sort of the music kicked in and it's sort of scene by scene chopping really quickly. I like this part more than I did of earlier parts. I thought this was really good the way they done this.
1:00:25 Same. So, again, I'm sort of mixed on that one. I really liked how different it was as an entry, but as you said, uh we do need to crack on and keep going through these. So, last uh votes in for this one on LinkedIn, guys. Uh we're going to keep moving on because we have got a lot of entries to watch. But yeah, interesting, totally different take. And Dale, who is um tuning in, real uh the real robot is his handle. Dale Williams is his real name. His entry is called The Humankind. And the blurb I've got here is that humanity has evacuated a utopian Earth. The AI guiding our survival discovers what drove us out. And it isn't an army. It's pollen sent from a thousand light years away to replace our life with theirs.
The Human Kind by Dale Williams
1:01:13 Let's check it out. Talk to me, Milo. What is this? The evacuation is succeeding. 72 hours from now, the first wave reaches Earth. [music] It changes living tissue. But there is a truth I have learned that I cannot tell you yet. [music] What does he mean? He can't tell us. Milo, tell us what's happening. So why did a government coalition acquire Milo? [music] Scale and trust. With secure access to the largest anonymized health database, [music] cures came fast.
1:02:00 Preventable disease is disappearing. Food arrives before shortages and so much prosperity. I helped plan this evacuation. You've never kept anything from us before. No, you wouldn't unless telling us hurt someone. We missed the village. [music] Masks on. The air is bad. 17 hours to final launch. We're cutting it too close. We won't make our own evacuations. She says she's had [music] 16 kids this year. Triplets. Quadruplets. You see them drawing aliens or some Keep them safe. Then we figure out what's happening to them. Milo, evac ships,
1:02:49 radiation suits. Where are they? [music] They won't leave, Kade. But there's time to pull you out. It will change you. Something has sent biological instructions to Earth. It behaves like pollen. It changes fertility. Within a few generations, humanity will be replaced. It changed their DNA before we got here. It doesn't harm them. But we would. That's why you couldn't tell us we'd treat them like an invasion. Earth is becoming what we hoped it could be. If humanity returns now, the atmosphere [music] will change them. How do we get rid of it? It's not like we can ask the makers.
1:03:37 They used a signal to send life here like it were data. I believe we can use it to send life back. [music] I'm here. Let's surface when you're ready. Wow. Again, just such a different entry. The voting is now open for that one, guys. Uh what did you think to that one? One awesome, two, okay, three not for me. Visually, again, I thought that was amazing. Like, like very close to sort of Kareem's level of visuals and the pacing and the editing. You know, the part I really liked in this intro sequence was the four screen split, you know, where you're seeing really interesting visuals happening in four different screens split there.
1:04:30 I hadn't seen that as part of any trailer so far, and it really caught my eye. Um I was questioning exactly what Bika Studio is thinking. Is that utopian? That's yeah mind. I was like really I don't you know it's a future vision of like I don't know we need to like find out exactly you know what the entry requirements were like. Um, uh, yeah, it was kind of feeling a bit more like a, you know, uh, like something bad was going to happen at all times throughout that, you know, and but yeah, it was epic, you know, like just so epic. Like, uh, I love the I love the mask design on that woman. I thought the costume design in this was great. Beautiful. Like even the clip before where that guy was just reading something, he had a really nice jacket and scarf
1:05:22 on. I was noticing like like the way he designed the costumes here was fantastic. I really like the character design in this one. Um and the future sort of feeling without it feeling again too, like I say, cliche to what we see as like, you know, futuristic technology and stuff. It looked like a really unique palette of like costumes and these gadgets with the little, you know, robot eyes as well. That was a really nice touch as well. Um, but the visuals here like with the stars exploding and people look at this like it just looks next level. If we received this on the regular show, mate, we'd be like straight ones. And that's why it's like don't take this criticism, you know, as like again that's not my favorite premise that we've seen so far. Like again, but visually it's so high. Color grading. It's so good. Soundwise it's incredible,
1:06:12 you know? So, it's really hard to vote on this one. Um, so don't know where to put it honestly compared to the other ones we've watched. And by the end of the show, we'll probably have a complete like, you know, who's was that our pick? Who knows? It's going to be so hard to judge this. I have no idea how you pick in between these, but tough. It's next level stuff though, isn't it? By all the people. That's what I seeing is where they really went into the like sea dance levels of like extreme visuals for this like you know crazy. So yeah, voting's down close on that one guys. We're going to have to move on because we're only at number that was only number six that we've watched so far and we've got a lot more entries to watch if we've got time for them. Hopefully we will. Um the next one as I said is going to be a really different take.
Reviver by Aleksey of The Dor Brothers
1:07:01 It's by the Door Brothers, created specifically by Alexe within the Door Brothers and I think um a bit more of the team, but it's called Revivor. And the premise I've got for this one is that across the rise and collapse of civilizations, a single flame passes from humanity hands to the technologies that we create, revealing that the future is not something that we inherit, but something we choose to revive. So with all that, let's check it out. [music] [music] There you are.
1:08:07 [laughter] [music] [music] [music] Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. [music]
1:09:00 [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [bell] [music] [music] [music] Heat. [music] [music]
1:09:53 As I said, mate, doesn't get more different. There wasn't a single bit of dialogue hardly. It was all visuals. He's a French um creator, so obviously very inspired by sort of French cinematic sort of masterpieces. And you can really see this. It was almost like an analogy, metaphor, poem sort of visually, wasn't it? It was just uh very Door Brothers, very epic, very awesome. Um the voting's now open for that one, guys. If you thought that was awesome, hit one. If you thought that was okay, hit two. If you thought that was not for me, hit three. Uh, totally different take, right? Like totally off the cuff. Most crazy entry to this one that we've seen anyway.
1:10:40 Um, and so like door brothers to go that way, you know, just go straight left field and totally like interpret it their own way. What was your thoughts on it? I don't know what to say on that one. I genuinely don't know what to say. It's jaw dropping, isn't it? It's kind of like it was stunning visually. I didn't really follow it. I'd probably have to watch it a couple of times. Yes. But the other thing as well, this is the power of a name. And what I mean by that is if this wasn't them, the door brothers, I probably wouldn't watch that again. But I look at this thinking I missed something. So because it's the Door Brothers, I'll watch it again. Yeah. I've missed something rather than if it was something well Jimmy is saying straight away it's very Stanley Cubrick like you know very French very
1:11:28 cinematic and this is what I'm saying is Alexe is part of the door brothers team but he really took the mantle on this vision you know and it's very different we've seen so much different stuff from the door brothers even last week didn't we where we watched one of their animations and then one of their more typical videos but this is so different again and it's like one French interpretation of cinematic, sort of cubricesque, visually stunning. Again, I think it worked really well as a trailer. Um, but then obviously, what's the 20page script that was submitted alongside this that sells the movie? That's going to be the ultimate test for this one, I guess, is like, is there a premise for a great movie that has a great script as well that wasn't like part of the trailer, but was part of the submission, I guess. Um, crazy. That one, as I said, threw me for a loop when I saw that alongside everyone else's.
1:12:21 I was like, "Oh my god, this is insane." [clears throat] Mad mad stuff. Mad stuff. Like, how do you compare that? How do you compare it to anyone else's? You know, like how do you even like judge it? It's so hard, isn't it? What I do like about the state of AI right now, and some people might not agree, but I like the fact that they can do competitions and pretty much everyone, even if they're big names, will enter because what you'll find across other industries, if it's a competition and you're a big name, you don't want to enter because you don't want to lose. So, at the moment, it's at that stage where it's like, oh yeah, everyone's kind of entering. But the flip side, that's what Goblin told us though, wasn't it? is he thinks it's kind of not his thing to enter because it's sort of beneath him now as a creator.
Why are the biggest AI creators entering competitions?
1:13:10 He is one of the biggest AI creators. So there there's I don't think door brothers usually enter stuff, but this is the $2.5 million film, you know. So it's it's like I think that there's like a a threshold now for the biggest creators out there where we've seen a load more enter this one that wouldn't typically enter like, you know, a $100,000 prize or even a million. You know, I really think it has to be a million plus budget now [clears throat] to get the biggest of the big, you know, take the time out of their IP creation world things that they've monetized to a huge amount. Let's be honest, you know, like Flory made Flory made a point. She said, "I don't think competitions should mix hybrids with full AI in my opinion." Can you elaborate on that, Flory?
Should competitions mix hybrid and fully AI films?
1:13:58 Um, what I was thinking was when you've got hybrid, like we watched one earlier on, um, and it had like the behind the scenes one. I was thinking to myself, if you would have told me that everything and that was AI, I probably would be thinking, okay, everything's AI. So, yeah. Yeah. Really stood out. Maybe I've just seen so many good AI. That's why I was like, this is really good AI. So, we're, as I said, it's that point where we're like, what do we believe now? You know, I think, well, we've been here for a while, but Seance 2.5 is made it even more so, and it's only going to get better. So, yeah, that's why I'm like when I see that it's that
1:14:44 it's far less plasticky now, Cance 2.5 compared to even two, you know, now. And that's what's crazy about this. I think it was only out for two weeks before the end of the submissions. So, you had to have waited until literally the last available weeks if you were going to redo your whole piece for Cance 2.5, which I think many did do, you know, which is kind of crazy. Anyway, we've got Justin tuning in from Wonder Studios, absolute legend in the building, and his is the next one that we're going to be watching. Uh, we had Hal on the show before, remember? He won the Curious Refuge program, their competition, and then he came on as a special guest in the early days of the show. So, I think Hal was mainly uh alongside the Wonder Studios team responsible for this one called Slingshot.
Slingshot by Wonder Studios
1:15:29 And the premise I've got for this one is that when a mysterious unstoppable mass hurdles towards Earth, a man who has never committed to anything must make the one commitment that he can't walk back on, igniting a black hole to fly the Earth through our solar system. On a one-way trip. The robot who he talked with him in, he uh with a robot who talked him into it. Uh with all of that, let's check it out. Jake, just come and meet them. It will help.
1:16:15 [music] That's not what this is. Settle. Settle, please. We have a special guest from the Global Space Team [music] today. Is that your boyfriend? No, I'm his boss. [music] Actually, she broke up with him while he was on a mission. [music] What's happening? You ran the test. Nothing makes any any sense. Nothing within our physics can put this together. We don't know what it's made of.
1:17:03 What exactly do we know? It's coming straight for us [music] and we can't stop it. What are our options? We go all in or there's no Earth left. We ignite a black hole. ARE YOU MAD? Then a pilot guides us towards it and we pull the Earth out the way. YOU'LL KILL US ALL. That went well. [music] This is the best chance we got. As of 88 hours ago, we have begun the Slingshot Initiative, a global emergency unification project to pull our civilization into safety. What makes you qualified? Are you afraid? [music] Are you afraid? You're the only one that can do it. I've seen the roster. Listen, I don't want to be part of whatever this is. If you don't do this, we all die.
1:17:51 All of us. You know what happened last time I flow? It's going to work. I saw Matthew McConno Kellogg. Hey, hey, hey, do it. Well, you can't just pull the earth where you want it to go. And you CAN'T JUST GIVE UP all the time. [music] We have fallen many times before. [music] We're all counting on you, but today we will pick each other up and unite as one. You ready, Chip? Um, no.
1:18:48 I can get you home. How? You're not going to like it. Tell me. [music] God damn, that music was epic. Uh, the voting is now open. Yes, watch Netflix. Watch, please. Watch, please. I'll be watching that. What did you think of that? The voting is now open, guys. One, that was awesome. Two, that was okay. Three, that was not for me. As we found out when Hal came onto the show, right, he's a BAFTA award-winning editor, mate, which is the thing that stood out the most from this is just like the editing was next level on this. um the trailer feeling of it too and the sort of buildup with the music, you know, the anticipation.
1:19:38 It's all great, you know, and you can really tell those skills come from his previous experience. Yeah. He won the Curious Refuge competition and he said then um you know, he was just sort of getting into AI as Curious Refuge has come around with the animation competition. So, he really pushed himself. He won that competition and now he's never looked back. And those have clearly, you know, those skills have clearly translated now as well into he's a visually AI great director now as well, you know, as well as the editing skills he's got. So amazing for me, that one was definitely a one. Um I again like as you said, click, you know, I'm so sold off that trailer that I would definitely start watching that thing. It reminds me of like Armageddon, Deep Impact, those type of somebody has to go save the world.
1:20:28 The only thing that I didn't like was that bit there when she was tell I like the bit when she was telling all the politicians, but I don't think the politicians would react in a way of we can't do this shouting around like that. I don't think that would be the case. But I really like this. Like I would watch this. Like I definitely Yeah, I would watch this. I definitely would watch this. I like this. I love this character too. This main lead character, you know? Design. There's a bit there where she shouts at him where I was like I looked at it and I said, "Is this a real person or is this what I said?" Like the emotion in it was really really good. And also the voice the voice didn't feel like AI voice. It felt like it was somebody actually speaking. Obviously, the robot R2-D2 type thing was was um was
1:21:15 uh like that bit that bit there where she's there that there. The emotion there. I thought to myself, is that AI? It's next level, isn't it, mate? Yeah. Yeah, you you're right. Like, we are actually living in a time where you're going to start going Sea Dance 3, you know, is this going to be like distinguishable from real life actors or will it still be that like actors can give a driving performance that's a lot better than anything that we ever think is like even it's really hard to know. But in terms of just like being tricked from scene to scene, I agree, you know, like I can totally see like AI performances now and go, "Wow, that felt really real, you know, like really real." And considering where we were at even like six months ago in AI video, it's unbelievable to see that as a trailer, you know, being made in August of this year,
Can you still tell AI performances from real actors?
1:22:03 considering that we're literally in the year when, you know, Sea Dance didn't even really exist. You know, we went V3 to C dance to this and we were expectations just went so high so quickly. It's unbelievable truly. Yeah. But yeah, Hal is a living god and a legend as we found out. He's a very nice guy as well. And we're going to have him on for a creative session in the future if that's okay, Justin. And maybe many more of the Beyond the Loop series. We already had Cavan the Kid on as well, didn't we? Who did a piece and in fact Henry did a piece as well. So, yeah, we're really there's so many mixtures of awesome creative directors that we're getting to both communities. Let's keep going, though. We have Particle Panic tuning in. I saw him tuning in in the chat earlier. If you're still in the chat, let us know. Your piece is next.
The Wind Before the Name by Mark Wachholz
1:22:50 Um, so Particle Panic is his YouTube handle. Uh, Mark Waltz, I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right, is his real name, and his piece is called The Wind Before the Name. And the premise I've got for this one is that on a late 21st century uh earth healed and sustained by Bloom, an AI that speaks the languages of living systems, 14-year-old Liznner Juny and Moth uh a stranded fragment of Bloom becoming I think I've got a a bit of like a bad premise for this one. Uh let's just uh I don't even know what I'm reading there. I think some AI gibberish of like summaries of the YouTube thing. So, let's just watch it and actually figure out what this one is.
1:23:36 I was born long after the world was saved. [music] By then, Bloom had given us back our forgotten songs. First the [music] reefs, then the forests, then us. But nobody knew that saving the [music] world would also make room for something new. Things with no species, [music] no history, no name. Things like you [music] [music]
1:24:24 [music] [music] [music] It emerges near human populations like the smaller forms we know, [music] but on a planetary scale. Something that has never existed on Earth before. We have learned to communicate with every living system on Earth. [music] Tell it to stop. We sent the entire local bloom choir into the wind. We lost them all. [music] Then what is it? Not weather, not a sick body. It follows no language we know. Every corrective signal, [music] every attempt to heal it only makes it stronger.
1:25:16 [music] We once built a machine capable of engaging with a force at this scale, [music] but we have to bring her back to Earth. Aurelia is the only thing that protects Paradise Station. [music] Recall her and everyone there will die. Then it's Venus's decision. Paradise station to Earth. We are sending Aurelia home. [music] Aurelia is requesting trained listener [music] volunteers for first contact. It made contact with our children a long time ago. [music] Aurelia can carry the signal.
1:26:03 We need you to recognize the answer. We trust in your experience, your judgment, [music] and your courage. [music] It looks like an alien planet, but this is Earth. This is my home. [music] I see Danny tuning in. Thanks so much for tuning in, Danny. Always love Mark's work, he says. So, the voting is now open on that one, guys. What did you think? One awesome, two okay,
1:26:51 three not for me. That one was so different to the other entries we saw, mate. Again, like a totally different take. I really like the characters and the pacing and the music on this one. What were your thoughts? Yeah, this here reminds me of right at the beginning I said about I there I think the second or the third one that we played and I was like this is weird because it's quite upbeat. This is what I thought most of them will be looking like where it's you say it's meant to be a positive utopia but actually it doesn't feel that way. Now I'm not saying that it doesn't have a happy ending but it doesn't feel that way from the trailer. Like if you if you put this in front of me and said this is a PG film, I'd be like really, you know, some positive like positive thing, I'll be thinking, yeah, it will have a happy ending.
1:27:42 Um, but so that's why I was like I I I couldn't I can't work out how it's judged as a trailer. Stunning. Amazing. You know, yeah, again, if this was just a piece we would submitted on any other week, it's a straight one from me. But again, you have to take all of this into context like you're absolutely right on all of that like you know how like I think actually someone said it really well in the comments. Um this was just next level in terms of like you know what it was and the character like uniqueness and the overall uniqueness of this trailer felt the most original you know in terms of this doesn't feel inspired by anything like reference wise. It felt like a very unique idea and premise. So, premise-wise for me, this is really high up there because it felt so original.
1:28:31 You know, it didn't feel at all cliche. It didn't feel like, in fact, I didn't even know where to put it. You know, I didn't feel like I know any I don't feel I've watched anything like this. And it was sparked my curiosity out of that, I think. So, that's my feedback on this one is I don't really know where to put it. It was intriguing. It felt unique. Um, how it's judged into the prize, it's really hard to know, as you say. Tough one. But Mark is maybe someone that we'll get on for a creative session in the future because I think we featured quite a lot of his work in the in the past, Particle Panic, and uh really really like the overall stuff there. Really really cool. Yeah, cool name as well. Yes. Don't forget to thumbs up. Thank you so much for the reminder. We uh I've sort of like thrown the normal show out, you know.
1:29:19 We are live. Like and subscribe, comment on our YouTube, all of that. I should do the you did the YouTuber thing last week, mate, weren't you? Like like and subscribe. I'll do I'll take the mantle this week. I'll take the mantle. [clears throat] I forget to do that. Absolutely. The ice cream van man, he he turned up yesterday and I wondered if he was going to be here today. So far, I've heard him, but you never know, mate. You never know. Hey, right, let's keep going, shall we? We've only got 30 minutes left and we still got quite a few more to get through. So the next one is by Big Films directed by Steven Lizka. It's called The Watcher. When a mysterious man is discovered orbiting the sun, a dedicated ast uh astronomer embarks on a thrilling journey
The Watcher by BIGFILMS
1:30:07 challenging humanity's understanding of existence, spirituality, and self-awareness. Now, we know that this one was definitely made with Cance 2.5, ChateBT image 2, Nano Banana Pro, and then upscaled with Topaz Astra. Let's check it out. You've never felt the rain. Tell me about it. [music] I remember when people used to fear it. The floods, the lives it took. We looked to the sun [music] as the source of life. We never knew someone was looking back.
1:30:57 [music] No, that's impossible. Yesterday, Indian astronomer Suees Sharma released images of what appears of what appears [music] to be the body of a man orbiting the sun. Who is he and how long has he been there? Let me be clear. We backed your work to bring solar energy to Earth. Your invention brought us abundance, but now this thing up there is dividing people. You have no idea what you've just done. [music] Which way is he facing? He's looking at us. [music] As nations of the world continue their path towards progress, a mission has been voted to bring the celestial [music] corpse to Earth.
1:31:47 Do you think he's alive? [music] Do you think he can see us? I hope so. We've encountered a being that appears human. He breathes. He watches. But he doesn't speak. We haven't been able [music] to communicate with him. We've both been birds trapped in a cage for too long. Sesh, let me open it. [music] What did I just do? You chose a path of your own. I've watched [music] this world for a very long time. You've built. You've evolved. [music] You've created life, abundance, wonders no one could have imagined.
1:32:37 [music] Somewhere along the way, you lost something. [music] And now I see a light in people's eyes again. Souls that had withered are [music] beginning to flourish. The greatest wonders are yet to be built. But to get there, you need to look up. [music] You need to embrace the beauty of the unknown. They look at me and see a god, but I'm not. [music] I didn't ignite that light. You did, Sesh. You did. [music] [music]
1:33:29 So, a lot more of a typical sort of feeling there, you know, sort of a familiar one compared to the last one. Um, the voting is now open on that one, guys. What did you think? One awesome, two okay, three not for me. Epic, epic, epic, epic that one. Really liked it. Um, I like the feeling overall, the takeaway, the characters, the sort of pacing. What's your feelings? Yeah, I really like this. This is type of thing I was like, "Yeah, I'll definitely watch this. This is this is me." This is reminds me of like a superhero film as well. Like there's like some form of superhero. The only thing is is that that thing that the watcher there needs to be some form of that could be the good person and there needs to be some villain who's just as strong that they can use.
1:34:18 But yeah, I think that was really good. It reminded me, somebody said Peiquey Blinders vibe. He looked like Selenium Murphy or whatever his name is. Definitely. It sounded like him. Yeah, the main guy from it. What's his name? Murphy. Yeah. No. What's his name in um Tommy Shelby? That was it. Tommy Shelby Shelby character in I ordered a Peaky Blinders. Yeah. Yeah. The Brummy accent. So funny, isn't it? Yeah. Strong contender though. You know the guy. That's the guy from Peaky Blinders. The guy from Openheim and Inception and Batman Begins and and Peaky Blinders. Yeah, he's good actor, Irish guy. [clears throat] But that side character, you know, him, he's basically like the superhero feeling as well, isn't he? He's kind of like the the side character to the superhero narrative. So, I totally see your sort of feeling there as to how that
1:35:07 you see this scene here. I was thinking, how are they going to keep him in this thing when he can stand next to the sun? Like, how can how can how can this like hold him? But then he went like that and just broke it. So I was like, "Okay, cool. That makes sense." Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, single silver blanket to stop something that can [laughter] Yeah. Again, it's just like a little bit of like some plot hole twists like that where he's like, you know, like X-Men, they're in concrete, aren't they? When it's like the magnet, you know, guys, they really lock it down, you know? So, just some next level thinking like that. But yeah, I really like this one. I don't know what it was about this one. I think overall I just liked it, you know, like the feeling of the overall tone of it and the Yeah, I just liked it. I'm not I can't exactly put my finger on what what it was that made me like that one, but I definitely give that a strong contender.
1:35:58 I like it. Yeah. Anyway, last votes coming in. We'll shut down the poll and continue going. So, Flor says, "For you kitties, Christopher Reeves equals Superman." because some looked like Christopher Reeves. Yeah, that was the Superman I grew up with. Yeah, he had the unfortunate horse incident, didn't he? Uh yeah. Gosh. The curse of Superman. Oh, yeah. So, the next one is called Somewhere Past Midnight and it's by Analig Analague Mirage. So, that's the handle I'm assuming. We're not sure exactly who the person is. Uh the premise for this one is in a world much like our own, Oneria
Somewhere Past Midnight by Analog Mirage
1:36:43 has created a revolutionary technology that allows people to lucid dream on demand. So let's check it out. When I was a kid, I used to dream I could fly, but after we moved to the city, Mom, those dreams stopped. Then Oneris came up with a sleep mask that let anyone have lucid dreams on command. All you had to do was put it on, fall asleep and open your eyes inside your dream.
1:37:37 [screaming] [music] I've got you. This doesn't feel like one of my dreams, but I'm still asleep, aren't I? You are. Then whose dream is this? When we [music] wake up, we think our dreams disappear, but they don't. They keep going. The moment we open our eyes, they all end up here in this place. Even the ones no one remembers anymore. It's kind of a graveyard. I guess no one even knew this place existed.
1:38:26 Then on [music] made lucid dreaming accessible to everyone and some people started finding their way in like you. Why do you travel like this from dream to [music] dream? Because I'm looking for something an island hidden somewhere out there. I want to find [music] it. So why are you looking for it? I don't know if it's true, but they say that's where dreams are born. And you know how to find it? We need to find hidden passages. The hard [music] part is they never stay in the same place. What if we get lost? We probably will. I met this girl in my dreams. Every night we travel together through worlds I never thought could exist.
1:39:17 I never knew where she was taking me. Most of the time I don't think she did either. I've seen incredible places [music] and some you really don't want to get lost in. I don't know who she is or where she came from, but since I met her for the first time in my [music] life, I don't want to be anywhere else. What an interesting premise. So, uh, the voting is now open on that one, guys.
1:40:02 What did you think? One, awesome. Two, not uh, okay. Three, not for me. I'll tell you straight away what it reminded me of. Remember when we actually watched the Door Brothers winning competition called Perfect Man where the guy went into virtual reality, but then the knock on the door was, you know, the real reality is what you're abandoning your wife and kids. And this was the alternate twist where it's like a a good thing. Now, here's where I think it got interesting. When he's going into the dreams, he has no control. You know, it's not like what we think of as lucid dreaming where you have full control over what you can do and how you can do it. It's like, no, there's this character that you didn't want to be there, that you don't know how she got there, and you're falling in love with her. But then at the same time, that kind of is a dark narrative, you know, like as in he's found the love of his life in his sleep
1:40:54 and not in reality, you know, like it's kind of a weird twist at the end, finding out that this girl doesn't really exist in this world and like you're like, "Oh, well, now he's in love with this sleep character." Um, so it's it's kind of all over the place for me. I love it and I think it's got some strange parts and I'm like, "Wow." What did you think? I There's a couple of things. I think this is probably Well, someone earlier on said there's not there's not been any that's aimed at kids. This is the first one. I think like you could tell this is like a Harry Potter not so much it's not Harry Potter, but I mean it's aimed at that age group, age demographics. Yeah. This is also I can see this being turned into something bigger like this is like you can see it like 15 million it be a lot more than that
1:41:44 but you can see this being turned into something like I think it's got a great concept I think you can it will it ticks across families you know that's the thing like young kids will like it there'll be always that older underlying story like you said that adults would can kind of see as Well, um you can make it exciting. You can play around with certain characters which they can sell at merchandise like for merchandise. I think yeah, this is um yeah. So, and actually there were some comments earlier that it's kind of inspired by stuff like Spirited Away or How's Moving Castle. So, this is a very popular sort of like as you say genre and demographic that they could appeal to here with characters.
Why pure AI suits dreamlike worlds
1:42:30 You know, my my most interesting thought on this one was what a great use of AI, you know, like these like imagine the CGI cost for this, you know, like imagine like how much it would make this trailer like in the like hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions maybe. Like it's kind of crazy even just to make the trailer, you know, like all of the incredible like scenes of like trains on water and like fire and all of that is a great use case for AI to be in your submission, you know, and pure AI as opposed to hybrid and stuff where it'd be too hard to have actors and stuff involved in incredible scenes like that, like just dropping from skies, you know, like the characters like grabbing each other, dropping from the sky and stuff. It is truly dreamlike, you know, and and sort of like completely fantas fantasized
1:43:19 at the top level. But yeah, I really like that one. Good name. I like that one. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think the best segway you said, mate, the characters, imagine how much money the characters would sell for in the Harry Potter like, you know, Yeah. You could turn you can even imagine that being a theme park ride, you know, like there's a different like there's a whole based off of the flying. And the reason why is cuz I was I was in Euro Disney and they've got the Peter Pan ride and Peter Pan you sit on this I don't even know what it is and then you're kind of flying around and stuff like you can see that being like a theme park ride. I think that person's on to something here. I I really onto something. Yeah. And I think entering like that so smart because regardless of outcome someone important will see that and go I want to fund that.
1:44:05 You know, it may be even you don't win this competition, but a big director sees that or something and goes right or a big studio or, you know, whoever wants to sort of back that. So, really smart that one. Really, really smart. Great pick, Paul, in the background. Just to remind people that are late to the show. I see some late entries now. We have Paul as well, the producer in the background. And we're getting through to our last three. I think we're going to get through. Just because we're so time constrained. If you're watching and we didn't get round to your piece, it doesn't mean that we won't watch it in a future episode potentially. Please submit them through to the show on the AI live show.com if you've made a piece that didn't make it this week. Um, we obviously know now that there's going to be 50 that are selected later on today and then we can see from those 50 as well, but also if you didn't make the top 50, still send it to us and you know, hopefully we can get round to it.
1:44:56 But we are limited by time. And on that note, I'm going to introduce the next one, which is Project Meridian, it's called, and it's a Credo production written by Andrew Bizalos and Derek Mather and directed by Kevin Fox. And the premise for this one is that a retired astronaut with nothing left to prove, his daughter is stranded beyond the moon and a visionary uh aerospace founder is willing to risk everything on the one mission the world has already given up on. And this we know is definitely a hybrid piece, but they only used a very small crew. And they actually shot real faces on real glass and then built the rest. So the launch, the orbit, the hangover, the full of robots and everything else.
Project Meridian by Credo
1:45:44 That's generative tools and camera departments were also used. Yeah. So it's a real hybrid piece. And see if you can spot where the AI is and where the AI is not in this one. Let's check it out. Mayday. Mayday. Mission control. This is Icorus one. We're experiencing massive system failure. All contact was lost with NASA [music] research vessel Icorus 1 shortly before the vehicle entered lunar orbit. Officials believe that the craft remains intact [music] and the crew is alive, but no rescue mission can be mounted in time. Makes you think you can still fly. [music] The X37C. This little handme-down by Uncle Sam is 90% where it needs to be.
1:46:36 Now, with your rapid fabrication technique, we can get the last 10%. Project's still in development. It is my only hope of saving that crew before the window closes. Why didn't you go to NASA? Well, they turned me down. They they don't have an imagination. One man, no mission control, no second chances. What do you believe is the probability [music] for success? Alex, if I don't do this, my daughter dies and you fly me. Five. This is just a naked PR [music] stunt for an experiment. There are 10 people in the world who can do this,
1:47:22 and one of them does not care if he comes back. Four. Tell me, Jack, believe your future looks bright. Three. I have no choice. I'm a father. Two. You know the odds. Why are you doing this? [music] Cuz I got one last thing to fix. Let's make sure we're planning a mission. Now your fuel. One lift off.
1:48:10 [music] Commander Mercer, we have breached the Karman line. Call me Jack. And what [music] might your name be? Ether Autonomous Flight Systems version 3.2.4.1. Let's just go with Buck. Very well. Would you like me to activate the [music] antimatter propulsion for you? Now, where's the fun in that, Buck? [music] Maybe.
1:49:02 Mayday. Mayday. Oh, I'm sure what happened there. Yeah. Again, I'm not That one was totally different, huh? Like a completely different entry. Again, maybe more typical of the sort of entries we've seen in terms of uh just overall premise and feeling of it being sci-fi and futuristic and that sort of thing, you know, not a left field choice here. That's for sure. Creatively, but yeah. Um, what did you think of that one, mate? Oh, the voting is now open. I should say if what did you think? One awesome, two okay, three not for me. Um, I thought it was like the last three. Stroke Four followed a strong premise. It you could tell that person understands or has worked in films before.
1:49:48 It understands how trailers worked. It kind of told a bit of the story and then went into like what could potentially happen. I like this fact that it was the dad wants to say it's like taken almost. It was like taken. It's just that from a different point of view. It's like my daughter's over there. I have to go and get her. It's that kind of like the hero journey type story. Um, I thought that the characters was good. I was trying to work out what bit was hybrid. You mentioned that it was hybrid. What bits were hybrid? Yeah. So, a small crew of real faces were shot. Um, I don't know exactly, you know, whether they were then transferred to AI or whether, you know, the acting performance was driving it underneath with driving video. I see Marco in the chat, by the way, and some other legends are just tuning in late to the show.
1:50:34 Uh, we're only got like another 10 minutes live. Um, but yes, kind of two across the board. Everyone voted two on that one. And I think that's exactly what my feelings were as well. I wasn't completely sold on it to be honest with you. Like, uh, but I thought there were some really good elements to it as well, you know. Um, and again with hybrid stuff, I think it's going to be like, well, where is this best used for AI? Like, you know, cuz it didn't feel like it was definitely there, you know. It was it something was missing there where AI could have made the hybrid production here at least stand out a bit more you know I think and that's what it was really missing that like to one you know the two to one like usage of AI or usage of actors or usage of what you had to enter with in this one I
1:51:20 felt like it could have done a little bit more to get it to that like top level performance really competing with some of the other entries we've seen again if that had just been submitted to our regular show probably a straight one, you know, because it's like a great piece, but it's it's up against real bangers here, so it's tough. What I'm surprised we've not seen so far is a cartoon. Well, it's funny you should say that actually because there are some other things that we have. Um, maybe in the next two. We've only got two more left, but I know that I've definitely saved some more that were in an animation style and cartoon style. So, maybe we'll get around to them in the next show. Or maybe they are in the next two. I don't know. Paul's picked these two. So, um, the next one though, because I'm just uh
Faster Than Light by Xanadu
1:52:08 uh checking out the time, we definitely have to get through these, is called Faster Than Light, and it is by Xanadu, who's the handle. And the premise for this one is that um I made the solo over roughly 25 days including conjuring the movie concept treatment. Oh, so this is actually just a bit of like a take from the director rather than the actual like u premise of the thing. He's giving us a bit of backstory. So he made the whole thing in 25 days is what we know. Uh very loosely rooted around um his YouTube series. So, it's basically like a movie premise that he's made from a IP that he's already been building up. He had last minute help from Ryan and Al Elaine
1:52:54 uh to get it done. So, it was actually three people involved in this one. With all of that in mind, let's check it out. Honey, [music] there's a fledgling planet called Earth. I want to go. No, honey. You know how I feel about fledgling planets. [music] I'm so over it. It's 30 years premature. All right, pack your bags. Get the yacht [music] ready. [music] Hey, Ma. We found a new lava tunnel that nobody's claimed. So, it's ours for now. That girl at school I told you about.
1:53:40 You named a sample. She heard that. It's promising. [laughter] Oh, they finally certified Mars today. It's an official civilization. Whole planet celebrating. And of course, Dad doing his whole humble genius thing all over the news. Humanity's next frontier now lies beyond our solar system. With faster than light, we'll expand [music] humanity's capacity to learn, grow, explore. I want you to help her, Kai. When humanity can reach the star, I know FTL first. I've been trying for 5 years. So is half the [music] planet. And humanity will succeed. Yeah, you said in 30 years. My [music] mom doesn't have that. How long you been failing at this? 5 years. Amateur. I've been failing at leaving for 27.
1:54:25 Partners. We're going to need more help. Um, I got people. [music] Told you this pack was [music] going to be fun. Almost locked. Energy flux stabilizing. You're clear on the core. Yeah, clap away, big guy. That was the last [music] configuration. Guys, Melody just went into the fusion core. I can't believe it. Earth to Kai. Come in, Kai. Oh my god, it's Earth. It worked.
1:55:15 Do you realize what [music] you have done? We only called Earth. You did not make a call. You produced a signature. It means you gave the stars Earth's address. 30 years premature. Every merchant, diplomat, and renegade within a thousand galaxies now knows Earth exists. Oh, never mind. Secure every inch of Mars where Kai ever set foot. We have less than 20 minutes. [music] [music] Holy God. Hul breach detected. Unidentified vessel [music] has docked.
1:56:04 Wow. Again, such a different entry there. Obviously, characters coming from his own IP world on YouTube, like I said. So, bringing in things that he's already got character sheets for and no doubt stuff like world building, you know. So, yeah, building kind of Gossip Goblin like, you know, where it's all like the same characters in the same universe. Yeah. So, the voting's now open on that one. Uh, one, you thought that was awesome. Two, you thought that was okay. Three, you thought that was not for me. Um, it was a funny one for me. I wasn't really sure where to put it. I thought it was very unique. You know, the character designs are very, very cool. And I need to go check out this guy's YouTube clearly. Um, interesting. Like a totally different take, a different pacing feeling. Like definitely the sci-fi feely one type entry, but um I like the alien characters a lot, you know.
1:56:52 What are your feelings on that one? This made me realize that I think the ones that kind of aim at a younger family market are the ones that I prefer. I actually really I really like I could see this being like dad choices, mate. It's dad choices, isn't it? Yeah. It's not even that like cuz my son is to be too young to watch this. But it's that I just I don't know. I could just I could just see this being like a not like a very young teenage uh stroke 10 to 14 year old like market that can just do really well like characters like this guy like that just turned up there and like I don't know I could the fact that they're still in high school and doing that. I just I could just see this like working. Um,
1:57:40 yeah. Well, we've got some interesting notes here from uh producer Paul. Just quickly, this one is actually by a CGI guy that doesn't normally do AI whatsoever. And so that had that feeling to it throughout, you know, kind of like, you know, this is a new thing for him, but really really cool first go. And you can see CGI background is instantly there. Kind of like Hal and his BAFTA editing that he's bringing to this, you know, like you it's it's very obvious. Uh but yeah, interesting that right. Like um I think it actually got a bit of negative feedback from his community because he doesn't really do AI, you know, so it's kind of got like a weird up and down votes for likes on his thing. Although we think it's brilliant as AI enthusiasts. Many of his CGI audience are having a bit of a reaction to it. I think
1:58:29 I think this will be more of a TV series than an actual film. I could see it being more of a TV series. That's a really good point, mate. That's actually the feeling I had too is it is more like Yeah, it be it'll be it reminds me of that that type of vibe. Yeah. Interesting. And I saw there that many of the people that you know weren't all bought into the other worlds were giving that one a one. So really interesting sort of reaction from the public on that one as well. I appreciate we are literally at the time when we would usually finish the show and I think we've got only one more. So, we just about made it through and uh it is Verena's piece. Uh I'm very happy for the announcements for Verena. She's someone that's been on our show as you remember an OG of the show.
Nobody Dies on Mars by Verena Puhm and James Stowe
1:59:15 She came on and she gave us the best uh sort of feedback and quotes about, you know, be very conscious about what you consume and what you put out there and it all, you know, reflects back. And then we had the chat about algorithms and how this is all changing. This piece is called Nobody Dies on Mars and she entered it with James Stowe. So I think they are a duo here entering this one. And when a chef loses his sense of taste, the week he arrives on Mars, the colony assigns him an alien companion he never actually asked for. And the friendship they build becomes the only thing holding the two species together. Let's check it out. Welcome to Colony 6. Local time is 4:20 in the afternoon and the atmosphere is holding steady. I was [music] the most soughtafter chef on Earth, but
2:00:03 my stupid ass decided to go to Mars. First week, [music] Mars killed my taste buds. There's nothing that's not really living. Thank you. I don't know why I'm still doing it. Which is why starting today, some of you are getting a companion assignment. [music] Me? No, the soup. Is that a joke? For God's sake, can you please put [music] on some clothes? [music] It won't give you your tongue back, but it can borrow mine if you want to try. [music] That's That's something.
2:00:54 Nobody dies on Mars. [music] That's the agreement with the Martians. If we lose another one of them, they will take away our [music] atmosphere. There hasn't been enough measurable progress. The reassignment goes through Monday. I know what happens when you move us too soon. Denj, that's exactly why I can't gamble on maybe again. You're going to just let him TAKE HIS [music] LIFE ON EARTH? They actually sent [music] me back. I'm really on Earth. The only reason this whole program works as well as it does is [music] to keep their most sensitive citizens busy. A whole civilization that is all connected. If one suffers, all suffer.
2:01:42 Miso. [music] They are pulling the atmosphere. [music] All right, Miso. Almost there. Just got to borrow a ride. Unauthorized vessel. Yeah. Yeah. [music] Unauthorized vessel. I know kind of the point. [music] Just look at me. [music] Take my hand. I'm right here. I used to think if [music] I couldn't get back what I lost, there was no point staying.
2:02:33 Turns out that's not the question. The question is whether there's still someone worth staying for. [music] Did you just eat a booger? [laughter] So, first note on that one. Great pick by Paul for the closer of the show. Although we are going to watch a trailer, so don't leave us um in a second. But the voting is now open for that one guys. What did you think? One awesome, two okay, three not for me. I absolutely loved it. I loved the interaction of the characters. I loved the overall feeling of comedy and the upbeatness of it all and how different it was to the other
2:03:24 entries. So glad to see Raina doing stuff like this. Honestly, really, really happy to see that. Really, really love that one. What was your thoughts, mate? Yeah, I really like this one. I do think they missed a trick though and that is I think they could have just turned this into a straight comedy with a little bit of uh drama but it felt like it was a bit funny then it went into something really serious right as well. I don't know. I think cuz when it went at the beginning when it was just funny I was like oh you know what this is different they've actually gone for more of a comedy not like Space Balls like the film Space Balls comedy like silly but it was just quite funny and like like I don't know just good vibe utopia [laughter] you know and then it just kind of went really down a dark path and it was like oh okay and
2:04:11 then it went funny again at the end but I don't know I just think they could have it it would have just been different to everyone else Right. Right. I totally see what you're saying there. But yeah, it did feel still to me like quite different to everyone else's. I did like it as well. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This mustachio character I really liked and the overall editing and pacing and yeah, the alien character is really fun and yeah, it's just totally different to everyone else's entries. Anyway, we are past where we would usually be and we do have a hard stop today, guys. So, what we're going to do is um actually show you a trailer of the world premiere that we're going to be watching tomorrow with Henry who's going to be joining us for our next crater session. And we're really really uh thankful for Henry for tuning in today as well.
Junkyard King trailer and Henry Daubrez's world premiere
2:04:58 If you're in the chat, mate, um thank you so much for sending this little clip that we're going to watch of tomorrow's show. Let's check it out. Paul, tonight on Junkyard King, new friends. I saw you, Kai. Giant monsters, teamwork. How are we doing? Questionable decisions. [music] And And you pulled it out of an anvil. A little sass, of course. There we go. You said you were missing animation, mate. Well, tomorrow we're going to be all animationed up with Henry. And it looks so cool, doesn't it? I'm thank so thankful for him to send over that excerpt. We know he's been working on it last minute and so yeah, really thank you so much.
2:05:47 Oh, what a show, mate. What a crazy episode of the show. Like such different entries this X-P [music] prize compared to the normal things we watch like music videos, advertising, and that sort of stuff. Um, if you're new to the show, obviously like and subscribe wherever you've tuned in. We're on LinkedIn, we're on YouTube, we're on Substack, we have our own website, the ailiveshow.com. [music] It's all up and firing now, mate. It's looking good. And Mary said she's excited for the session tomorrow. Yes, [music] we've got a big session tomorrow. Same time, same place, 4:00 UK time, 5:00 Central European time, wherever you are in the world. Use that as the as the as the benchmark. Um, and yeah, we, as we just, as Chris just uh showed you, we're [music] going to be talking to the creator of that piece, we're going to be showcasing
2:06:41 the whole the whole show or the whole uh clip and also breaking down how he does it. So, if you have any convers if you have any questions, let us know. And yes, Mary, if you're on YouTube, click the notification bell, subscribe to the channel, like the video cuz it helps us in the algorithms, all of that jazz that you hear all these YouTubers say. Exactly. [music] And as you said, mate, actually, we've got more than just the world premiere tomorrow. We're seeing the first behind the scenes of it and everything. You know, he's got a whole thing just exclusively for us. We're so thankful. And it's being brought to us by Invido, which is the company that he's made it with. Agent 2, Agent One, they're sponsoring the show very kindly. And like I said, it's a world premiere. And uh check out on luma.com/theai
2:07:28 live show to check out all the future [music] events that we've got coming up, the regular live shows and the creator sessions on a Wednesday, twice a week. It's a lot, but we're doing it and it's uh it's awesome content to be watching. Anyway, guys, like I said, we do have a bit of a hard stop today and don't be offended if we didn't get around to your piece. Thank you so much for taking the criticism so well. I think at the top of the show that was a really great way to open having the directors watching and taking the criticism so well, [music] trying to help each other, you know, we're not trying to get you down or anything like that, so don't feel like we we want that. Um, yes, we're all trying to make each other be better creators at the end of the day, and these pieces were pretty damn epic. Henry's in the show. There he is giving us the uh let's go to Exactly. Brilliant. [music] Well, thanks a lot everyone.
2:08:18 Hope you have a great rest of the day. If you're in [music] America, enjoy the rest of the day. If you're the other side of the world, hope have a good evening. And if you're round about the UK, Europe, [music] enjoy the uh the rest of the evening stroke nighttime. Yes. And thank you so much for tuning in. Take care.
