Formula E × Google Cloud Creator Challenge: Trailer Premiere + New Uncanny Harry

8 September 2026 · Chris Branch (Host), Mary Unfiltered (Guest co-host), Alex (Guest)

Watch on YouTubeRead the transcript

The short version

Episode 131 was back to the regular format after two weeks of XPRIZE takeovers, with Andrew and Paul both away. Chris Branch hosted solo until Mary, one of the show's most loyal commenters, stepped in as guest co-host from Manitoba. Alex from Bionic Awards joined to world premiere the trailer for the Formula E Creators Challenge 2026, a Google Cloud competition whose finalists will screen at the IMAX in London. Along the way: World Labs' Atlas world model, an Astra launch spoof, spec ads for a protein brand, Framer and Dreams, a MiniMax H3 music video that runs locally, five minutes of new Uncanny Harry, and long-form films from Léo Cannone, Dinda Prasetyo and the makers of SAPPHO'S ODYSSEY. The opening ads went to the audience vote.

The scoreboard

Every piece on AI LIVE goes to a live audience vote: 1 for awesome, 2 for okay, 3 for not for me. Here's how this week's work landed, best first.

  1. 1Framer: Dancing Dads (spec ad)100
  2. 2Dreams Christmas (spec ad)88
  3. 3Protein Without the Bloat (spec ad)Floating Tiger Films67
  4. 4Made with Lenovo: The History of FootballMatt Zien, Superheroes0

Score out of 100: a 1 counts fully, a 2 counts half, a 3 counts zero. Votes are counted the way StreamYard's live poll counts them: every 1, 2 or 3 mentioned in a YouTube live chat message while that piece was on screen, one vote per person per poll (their first). LinkedIn Live comments are still to be added.

Key takeaways

  1. 01

The tech has outrun the storytelling. Alex's question for every AI creator is whether their storytelling craft has kept pace with the tools, and Bionic is planning to pair screenwriters with no AI skills with AI creators to close that gap.

  2. 02

Abandoned ideas can be the best ads. Framer's creative director posted a dancing-dads idea that never ran officially, it became one of the brand's most viral posts, and it took the night's only straight 1s in the chat.

  3. 03

Local brand codes don't always travel. Mary didn't realise the Dreams spec ad was for a bed retailer until the last frames, a reminder that Britain's love of animal brand mascots isn't shared everywhere.

  4. 04

Open weights are closing the gap. Mark Isle's music video was made with MiniMax H3, which can run entirely locally on a high-end PC, is far cheaper than Seedance 2.5, and shows closed and open models are no longer far apart.

  5. 05

AI work is heading for the biggest screen. The Formula E Creators Challenge asks for a 60-second film made with Google AI tools, needs the car on screen for just four seconds, and screens finalists at the London IMAX, with entries closing 26 September.

  6. 06

Document everything. From M. Night Shyamalan's shooting diaries to fan film copyright, the hosts agreed creators need a record of their process, both to remember the work honestly and to protect their own IP.

Atlas world model

By World Labs

The show's look at foundational world models started with Atlas from World Labs. The demo takes an ordinary input image, like a JPEG, and turns it into a 3D environment you can fly a camera through, with lighting you can adjust shot by shot. Mary was blown away by the relighting. Chris's caution: are these cherry-picked examples, or will it hold up in real use? Either way, the prompts and hacks power users once built by hand are turning into out-of-the-box features, and Gaussian splats, world building and generation are all converging.

Introducing Nadir (Astra launch spoof)

By Ari Kuschnir

Ari Kuschnir's parody of the Astra launch video introduces Nadir, an AI that does everything for you instantly. It writes the song you were about to think of, renders a film about all the things you didn't do with Lydia, handles bedtime and is asked to fix Timmy's schoolwork. Chris opened the show with it because Astra is all anyone's feed is talking about, and if you've seen the real launch video you'll get exactly why it lands. Mary's one-word verdict: unhinged. No poll, just laughs.

“If you've seen the actual launch video, you'll know exactly why that's so funny.”Chris Branch · ▶ 14:01

Protein Without the Bloat (spec ad)

By Floating Tiger Films

A spec ad nobody asked for: gym-goers inflate like balloons until the reveal, "Protein without the bloat." It was made by the co-founder of Floating Tiger Films as a quick mock-up of an idea, exactly the kind of thing AI makes cheap to test where CGI would have been expensive. Mary loved the silly music but questioned why they float away at the end, pitching bowling pins instead, which Chris called brilliant. He put it on the one to two border: a nice idea that could have gone further. The chat leaned 2.

“Why are they floating at the end? That's the part that I'd be like, maybe we do something different.”Mary Unfiltered · ▶ 18:58

Framer: Dancing Dads (spec ad)

Framer's in-house creative director posted this as one of the ideas that never became an official ad, and it turned into one of the most viral things Chris had seen from the brand. Dads dance their way home to "The world may not be ready for your specific thing, but Framer is." Mary loved the shirt toss at the end. Chris saw a perfect pre-roll length and a friendly, Wix or Squarespace-style showcase of a fun brand. A spec ad for his own company, and the chat answered with straight 1s, the top vote of the night.

“I love it. Even the shirt toss at the end. They're not hanging up their clothes when they come home. They're just tossing them, right?”Mary Unfiltered · ▶ 22:48

Dreams Christmas (spec ad)

A possible Christmas spec ad for Dreams, the big UK bed retailer, by the head of innovation for Steven Bartlett's The Diary of a CEO podcast. A little critter searches for somewhere decent to sleep, from a cat's back to the inside of a piano. Mary, who used to work in furniture, said that without being told it was a mattress ad she wouldn't have got it, which opened a good debate: very British animal brand mascots, like the meerkat insurance ads, don't always travel. Well made, and mostly 1s in the chat.

“If you didn't tell me it was a mattress thing, I don't think I would have got it.”Mary Unfiltered · ▶ 26:49

Made with Lenovo: The History of Football

By Matt Zien, Superheroes

A real ad, from Matt Zien and the Superheroes crew for Lenovo's Made with Lenovo series: the history of football told at breakneck speed by a cheeky narrator, from games played for the gods and town-versus-town battles over miles of mud to creatures with no hands or feet picking up the ball a million years from now. Chris noted it was made a few months back, around when Seedance 2 arrived, so it feels a little janky next to newer work, but loved seeing a tech company be this fun. Mary was racing to keep up.

“I wasn't too sure what I was watching at the beginning because it looked like Quidditch and soccer and rugby.”Mary Unfiltered · ▶ 34:17

Money on My Mind (MiniMax H3 music video)

By Mark Isle

A music interlude from Mark Isle, made with MiniMax's new H3 model. Because H3 has open weights, it can run entirely locally, with no cloud, credits or interaction, as long as you have a high-end PC and graphics card. Chris rates Mark as the creator getting the best lip sync out of it, and says the characters stay true to their character sheets. It's also far cheaper than Seedance 2.5. The chat agreed H3 is the underrated video model right now, with one caveat: locally it may only run at 720p.

“The closed source models and the open-source models are not too far away from one another.”Chris Branch · ▶ 42:53

Junkyard King vertical music video

By Henry Daubrez

Former Creator Session guest Henry Daubrez made this vertical music video for Instagram, set in his Junkyard King world. It's exactly what he described on the show: a vertical strand with the same characters, running alongside the 16:9 episodes without affecting their plot. Mary loved seeing the series split off like that, and remembered his catalogued files and the multiple lighting setups behind the guitar-flipping shots. Chris pointed to the roughly 15 tools in Henry's stack and more audio channels than most people ever use.

“Watching the series and then seeing it just kind of split off like that. That was awesome.”Mary Unfiltered · ▶ 49:47

HERE BE MONSTERS

By Uncanny Harry

Five minutes of new Uncanny Harry, and it doesn't get more Uncanny Harry than this. Comic collector Terry waits on issue 122 of Blaine versus the Body Snatchers, but Dell turns up early after a rough night, and things turn very ugly, with disgusting bugs crawling in and out of noses. Mary, taking notes just like Andrew, caught the Easter eggs: the head tilt, folk music where it's highly inappropriate, a moment like a Folgers ad, and echoing boots on the stairs. The chat went from "ick" to "loved it".

“What truly made it feel like Uncanny was the echoing of the boots going up the stairs.”Mary Unfiltered · ▶ 58:04

Formula E Creators Challenge 2026 (Official Trailer)

By Bruno Dehant

A world premiere on the show: the official trailer for the Formula E Creators Challenge 2026, run by Bionic Awards with Google Cloud. It was made by Paris-based AI creator Bruno Dehant, who has worked for Mercedes, the NFL and Google. Alex brought it in, and Chris loved the pacing, the transitions and the car pulling up outside the IMAX, wondering what closing the streets for a real race car would have cost. The chat called it insane. Entries need a 60-second film made with Google AI tools.

“It actually feels like every class, from beginner to heavyweight, can actually enter into this thing.”Mary Unfiltered · ▶ 1:10:05

Hidden Memories

By Léo Cannone

Léo Cannone, who won at the first Bionic Awards with Costa Verde, is back. His new piece follows a young lad who decides to spend his summer making a film about his extraordinary grandmother, and this is day one. Chris put Costa Verde's staying power down to its handheld camcorder feel, much of it made with MiniMax, which still looks recent years later, and the new piece keeps that feeling going. Alex loved the focus hunting and lo-fi glitches you'd never expect from AI camera work, and the found-photography premise.

“I love the way that in the original film it was hunting for focus and things like that, and gave it that kind of real camcorder feel, lo-fi feel.”Alex, Bionic Awards · ▶ 1:17:09

IRONWOOD 1838

By Dinda Prasetyo, Heydin

Submitted to the show by Dinda Prasetyo, the creator behind the Heydin channel, and made with Seedance 2.5: six minutes about a forest community whose trees have been counted and signed away, and what happens when the old tree at the centre is taken. Chris said Seedance 2.5 characters look far less plasticky, and was struck that a creator with under 10,000 subscribers is making work like this. Alex loved the subtle opening and the depth of the soundtrack, but felt it lost its way in the action, where the men jumping in from the trenches didn't convince. Mary spotted a continuity slip, very Andrew of her.

“Where it maybe felt like it lost its way a little bit was when it went hard rather than soft and you got into the action sequences.”Alex, Bionic Awards · ▶ 1:38:07

SAPPHO'S ODYSSEY

Suggested by Marco, SAPPHO'S ODYSSEY watches two thousand years of history from a statue's point of view, from its making through moments like the French Revolution to the present day, witnessing weddings and private conversations in silence. There's no dialogue or voiceover, so music and editing carry everything, and cuts to black skip whole eras. Chris loved the transitions and the fourth-wall feel, and the chat called it Kubrick-esque. Mary loved that time added layers rather than destroying the sculpture. Alex: a really cool way to tell a story over time.

“I think the music carried this with no voiceover, because you were watching so intently the visuals.”Chris Branch · ▶ 1:50:33

A Mortal Kombat Original AI Film

By Zavian Kross

To close the show, a Mortal Kombat original AI film by Zavian Kross, in a style that reminded Chris of 90s Japanese animation and the early Metal Gear Solid sketches. Mary was about to go off about Street Fighter before the reveal. It opened the fan film debate: great original storytelling inside a loved IP can win over outsiders, but recent IPs sit in a grey area, and some rights holders come in heavy with lawyers. Alex added the flip side: creators building their own universes need to protect them too.

“That's the real skill of it: can you get people not already invested in this world to be interested in your interpretation of this world.”Chris Branch · ▶ 1:58:46

Questions this episode answers

What was AI LIVE Episode 131 about?

Episode 131 (8 September 2026) marked the return of the regular format after two weeks of XPRIZE takeovers. Chris Branch hosted with longtime commenter Mary as guest co-host, and Alex from Bionic Awards joined to world premiere the Formula E Creators Challenge 2026 trailer. The show reviewed 14 pieces, including World Labs' Atlas, five minutes of new Uncanny Harry, a MiniMax H3 music video by Mark Isle, IRONWOOD 1838 and SAPPHO'S ODYSSEY. Framer's dancing dads spec ad topped the audience vote.

What is the Formula E Creators Challenge 2026 and how do you enter?

It's a global competition from Bionic Awards and Google Cloud: make a 60-second film using Google AI tools, with the Formula E car on screen for at least four seconds. There are three categories (independent creators, agencies, and Google Flow), and you can enter more than one. Finalists screen at the IMAX in London, the three category winners each get a VIP trip for two to a Formula E race with $4,000 of travel covered, and entries close on 26 September 2026 at gen4challenge.com.

Which piece won the audience vote on AI LIVE Episode 131?

Framer's dancing dads spec ad, an idea from the company's own creative director that never ran officially, took four 1s in the YouTube chat and no 2s or 3s. The Dreams spec ad came next, while the protein spec ad leaned 2. With producer Paul Parsons away, Chris dropped the on-screen polls after the opening ads and later pieces were not put to the vote.

Can MiniMax H3 run locally?

Yes. On the show, Chris Branch explained that MiniMax H3 has open weights, so it can be downloaded and run entirely locally with no cloud or credits, provided you have a high-end PC and graphics card. Mark Isle's music video showed off its lip sync and how closely it follows character sheets, and it is far cheaper than Seedance 2.5.

Has storytelling in AI film kept pace with the technology?

Not always, according to Alex from Bionic Awards. He noted that in Bionic's first season few films could even do dialogue, and that technical capability has grown almost exponentially since. His challenge to creators is to ask how much soul and humanity they bring, not just how good it looks, and Bionic is exploring hybrid teams that pair screenwriters with AI creators.

How can I get my AI work featured on AI LIVE?

Submit it through the form at theailiveshow.com. Every Tuesday at 4pm UK the hosts review the best submissions live on LinkedIn and YouTube, and every piece goes to a live audience vote: 1 for awesome, 2 for okay, 3 for not for me.

Show notes

With Andrew Davis on a last-minute booking and Paul Parsons on holiday, Chris Branch ran the show solo until Mary, one of AI LIVE's most dedicated commenters, stepped in from Manitoba as guest co-host for her first time on screen. Chris was also wrestling the StreamYard polls without Paul, so after the opening ads the votes moved to the chat.

The first hour covered World Labs' Atlas world model, Ari Kuschnir's Astra launch spoof, spec ads for a protein brand, Framer and Dreams, a Made with Lenovo football history ad, Mark Isle's MiniMax H3 music video and Henry Daubrez's vertical Junkyard King video, plus M. Night Shyamalan's turn as a YouTuber and why creators should document everything they make. Then came HERE BE MONSTERS, five minutes of new Uncanny Harry.

Alex from Bionic Awards joined to world premiere Bruno Dehant's trailer for the Formula E Creators Challenge 2026, explain how to enter, and stayed for the rest of the show: Léo Cannone's new piece, IRONWOOD 1838, SAPPHO'S ODYSSEY and a Mortal Kombat original AI film. He also revealed that Henry Daubrez will judge the challenge. Mary closed the show in a pair of red shades, Andrew style.
