03Biography

The BLVCKL!GHT story

Blacklight, spelled BLVCKL!GHT

BLVCKL!GHT is pronounced Blacklight[1]. He describes himself as an AI filmmaker, world builder and musician out of Portland, Oregon, and on X as a creative technologist who builds "worlds that shouldn't exist"[4][6]. He works under that name in public; ITVT's Televisionation and The Film3 OG podcast both list his first name as Will[11][12]. His avatar is not a photograph but an AI-generated character: a face lit under ultraviolet, with glowing amber eyes, gold filigree and a magenta mohawk[3][6].

He makes all of it on top of a full-time job. He is vice president of operations at a national marketing company in insurance and home services, which he says he helped build "out of the garage" with its owners about ten years ago, and he has worked in digital marketing for 15 years[1]. He is also a trained musician: he has played piano since he was five, studied it classically for ten years, and says music is the reason he got into AI, because he had years of his own samples and recordings to build on[1].

Hour-long films first

His YouTube channel starts in June 2024 with AI music videos; Invasion, from August 2024, is still one of his most watched uploads[36][35]. He went long almost at once. On Halloween 2024 he released Whispers in the Dark: Descent Into Madness, a 30-episode cosmic horror series cut into a film of 1 hour 42 minutes[30]. After Death followed in November 2024, RAP†URE in February 2025 and Whispers in the Dark 2: Digital Purgatory on Halloween 2025[31][32][33]. He calls Mr. Gurgleson's Midnight Hour, released in August 2026, his fifth piece over an hour long[1][34].

Those films are deliberately out of order. He favours nonlinear storytelling because, he says, that is how memory works: drip-feed the viewer morsels so they leave with something to think about[1].

A water park built from childhood photos

Route 47 began with a collaboration. In December 2024 he approached Vnderworld and Hax, the original founders of West Coast AI Labs, whose work he admired for pushing the models in ways nobody else was, and they made an AI take on Everything Is Terrible, the Los Angeles artists who mash old VHS footage into strange films[1]. For it he trained one of his first custom models, on photos from childhood trips to Florida theme parks mixed with 80s and 90s art he had kept since he was a kid[1].

The result was Gorbo's Swim Hole, a sun-bleached water park where every slide, grotto and snack bar is a giant grinning mouth. He based it on a natural swimming hole his family went to when he was growing up, which closed down[1]. The first Gorbo's video went up on 19 February 2025[16]. Four days later came Gorbo's Swim Hole (RECOVERED FEED), presented as "File ID X-47.3", a found-footage promo that introduces the park's regulars with lower-third name cards. With 11,001 views it is his most watched YouTube video[14][3].

If you want to genuinely be original... it starts at the beginning, right? You got to make your own look and your own feel.

BLVCKL!GHT, on leaving Midjourney[1]

One road, nearly thirty shows

Within weeks the park had neighbours. Cryptid Dating Game, in which a human contestant chooses between three hidden cryptid suitors under host Damien Lovejoy, launched on 27 February 2025[19][5]. In March came Sad Steve's Taxidermy and Ice Cream, Midnight Mutation Cookoff, The Night Signal on 66.6 FM and a Gorbo's night-swim special[22][23][21][15]. An orientation tape for the Algorithm Corporation, the power behind the network's programming and sponsorship, had already set up the lore[26][5].

He builds it the way you would build a level in PlayStation's Dreams: start from a blank plane and set rules that differ from reality[1]. The first rule is that everyone has a body-horror element that nobody mentions. The second is that every character has a life outside their show, so the cast crosses over: Damien Lovejoy's transformation plays out on The Night Signal[1][21]. The counts depend on who is asked and when. On Creator Sessions #6 in September 2026 he put Route 47 at 29 or 30 shows and close to 100 characters; his Route 47 page lists 28+ interconnected shows across four seasons[1][5].

Season 4, which premiered in July 2026, follows Reggie, a plumber in a rainbow sequin suit who fell through his living-room floor onto Route 47[27][28]. Its finale aired on 22 October 2026, and his site says Season 5 is underway[28][5].

If you were to take a 10,000 foot view out, they're a complex character. They have other things that they do besides like the show.

BLVCKL!GHT, on writing characters[1]

Portland, for real

In 2026 a group of Portland creators who had been meeting weekly, among them PJ Ace, Tupacabra and Vnderworld, heard that a top-floor studio was opening up in the building where they met. They saw it on a Thursday and signed the lease the next Monday; he was one of the three who signed[1]. West Coast AI Labs is self-funded and lateral, with no boss: a place for independent creators to bounce ideas around[1][4].

Stunt Man Stu came out of that room. His studio-mate Tupacabra suggested a stuntman who gets hurt over and over, and BLVCKL!GHT runs with it: every episode gets a new character model carrying the injuries from the last, ten or eleven models so far[1]. He shoots real Portland locations himself, including Mary's Club, a steel bridge and the Portland Spirit, and mixes the photos with his characters[1]. In Stu Needs A Dollar, released in August 2026 and made in Seedance, Stu jumps the Portland Spirit and the boat explodes[29][1].

His own models, his own look

He left Midjourney about two years before his Creator Session, calling it "a really great exploration tool" but not the route to an original look[1]. He estimates he has at least 20 custom-trained LoRAs, on bases from FLUX.1 to Krea, and he stacks datasets to lock a style: Legend of the Void Spire, a 90s Saturday-morning fantasy, uses its own mood board plus two style LoRAs, three custom datasets in all[1]. He generated it at 480p on purpose, upscaled it to 1080 and left it there, because the shows it echoes were never crisp[1].

For node workflows he prefers Flora, which wires the connections for you from character and location references, and for gory or mature shots that other platforms block he uses Venice[1]. He will not give his workflows away. He says he has spent thousands of hours on them, and that what works for him may not work for anyone else[1].

Get in the box

He treats distribution as part of the art: "the off-ramp and replenishment stage for any creative"[1]. Self-funding means his AI spend has run to five figures a year, so he thinks hard about where the work earns[1]. He was already distributing on escape.ai, John Gaeta's platform, when Fairground approached him early with a pre-launch pitch. Fairground's chief executive previously ran Xumo, and the company places AI shows on ad-supported streaming services including Roku[1][38]. On Creator Sessions #6 he said Fairground could reach up to five ad-supported platforms; his site now says his work is distributed through Fairground and Roku across 13 platforms[1][4].

To fit those channels he writes to TV's rules: a 30-minute slot is 22 minutes of content with two or three ad breaks, shorts can be packaged into a block with a narrator, and anything that looks too close to existing IP is "dead in the water" with advertisers[1]. Online, his biggest audience is TikTok, where his eight-minute widescreen stories do far better than on Instagram, whose viewers can't rotate to widescreen[1][7][8]. Developers whose credits include Ratchet & Clank and Subway Surfers are also building a multiplayer Route 47 game for Steam, starting with Gorbo's Swim Hole[1].

Proving the human in it

He sees authorship as the question every AI creator will have to answer, and he puts himself into every step to answer it: his own samples and melodies, his own photography, models trained on his own art, and his own edit[1]. In 2026 he was a judge for the Lumara film festival run by Venice, alongside Gossip Goblin[1]. His site says he is a two-time Escape Awards winner[4]. He was interviewed on ITVT's Televisionation in June 2026, on The Film3 OG podcast and at Fireside's AI April meetup in Portland, and on 2 September 2026 he was the guest on AI LIVE Creator Sessions #6[11][12][13][1].

Gorbo's is his origin world and his most recognisable image: sun-bleached 80s and 90s theme-park photography in which every slide, grotto and snack bar is a giant grinning mouth with cartoon eyes[14][1].

It is based on a natural swimming hole his family went to when he was growing up, which has since closed. The model behind it was trained on his photos from childhood trips to Florida theme parks[1].

The pipeline

How a Route 47 show gets made

Pieced together from what he described on Creator Sessions #6[1].

  1. 01 Set the rules Start from a blank plane, as in PlayStation's Dreams, then set the world's rules, like the body horror nobody mentions.
  2. 02 Train on your own material Photos, old art and references become custom models: 20+ LoRAs so far. FLUX.1, Krea
  3. 03 Shoot real places Real Portland locations, composited with his characters. His own photography
  4. 04 Wire the scenes Character and location references flow into image, then video. Flora, Seedance, Venice
  5. 05 Score it yourself His own samples, melodies and house tracks. Piano, own recordings
  6. 06 Package for the box 22 minutes per 30-minute slot, then distribute to fund the next one. Fairground, Roku, escape.ai

07Toolkit

What BLVCKL!GHT makes it with

  • Custom LoRAscore

At least 20 custom-trained models, his main defence against a generic look.[1]

  • Kreacore

Custom image models for characters and locations; Legend of the Void Spire's look started here. He also recommends it to newcomers.[1]

  • FLUX.1uses

One of the base models he has trained LoRAs on.[1]

  • The video model behind Stu Needs A Dollar.[1]

  • Florauses

His preferred node canvas: set up reference names and it wires the nodes for you. "Yes and no to nodes."[1]

  • Veniceworkaround

For gory or mature generations that other platforms block. He also judged its Lumara film festival.[1]

  • One of two all-in-one platforms he recommends to beginners; he gave a Freepik demo at Fireside's AI April meetup in Portland.[1][13]

  • His own photographycore

Real Portland locations for Stunt Man Stu, and the childhood photos behind Gorbo's.[1]

  • His own musiccore

Piano, old samples and recordings; original house, synthwave and dreamcore tracks.[1][9][18]

  • Fairgroundcore

Distribution to ad-supported streaming services, including Roku.[1][4]

  • escape.aiuses

John Gaeta's platform, where he distributed his films before Fairground.[1]

  • Left about two years before Creator Sessions #6: a great exploration tool, but not an original look.[1]

Core: in most of his work. Uses: regularly or for a project. Workaround: fixes a gap elsewhere. Then: what he used before.

12Questions

Questions about BLVCKL!GHT

Who is BLVCKL!GHT?

BLVCKL!GHT (pronounced Blacklight) is an AI filmmaker, world builder and musician from Portland, Oregon, who makes Route 47, an interconnected universe of AI TV shows including Gorbo's Swim Hole and Cryptid Dating Game[4][5]. He makes it himself, self-funded, alongside a full-time job as VP of operations at a national marketing company[1].

How do you pronounce BLVCKL!GHT?

Blacklight. The V replaces the A and the exclamation mark replaces the I[1].

What is BLVCKL!GHT's real name?

He works publicly as BLVCKL!GHT. ITVT's Televisionation and The Film3 OG podcast list his first name as Will[11][12]. He does not publish a surname, and this page does not give one.

What is Route 47?

Route 47 is his universe of AI TV shows joined by one road, one sponsor (the Algorithm Corporation) and a shared cast[5]. His Route 47 page lists 28+ interconnected shows across four seasons, with Season 5 underway; on Creator Sessions #6 he put it at 29 or 30 shows and close to 100 characters[5][1].

How many shows are in Route 47?

It depends on the source. His Route 47 page says 28+ interconnected shows; on AI LIVE Creator Sessions #6, on 2 September 2026, he said 29 or 30[5][1].

What is Gorbo's Swim Hole?

A cursed water park where every slide, grotto and snack bar is a giant grinning mouth, and the sign warns that transformations may occur[14][18]. It came from one of his first custom models, trained on his childhood Florida theme-park photos, and its Recovered Feed is his most watched YouTube video[1][3].

Who is Tammy "The Timer" Tucker?

One of the Gorbo's regulars in the Recovered Feed, introduced with the name card "Perpetually stuck in the lap pool". She sinks slowly under the rapids from 1:16[14].

Who is Stunt Man Stu?

A battered Portland stuntman in a side project outside Route 47, from an idea by his studio-mate Tupacabra. Each episode gets a new character model carrying the last one's injuries; in Stu Needs A Dollar he jumps the Portland Spirit and it explodes[1][29].

Where can I watch BLVCKL!GHT's shows?

Free on YouTube at @BLVCKLIGHTai, with clips and eight-minute stories on TikTok and X[3][1]. His site says his work is also distributed through Fairground and Roku across 13 platforms[4].

Is Route 47 on Roku?

His site says his work is distributed through Fairground and Roku across 13 platforms[4]. On Creator Sessions #6 he said Fairground could reach up to five ad-supported streaming platforms, including Roku and Amazon[1]. No public list says which titles are on which service.

What AI tools does BLVCKL!GHT use?

Mainly his own models: at least 20 custom LoRAs on bases from FLUX.1 to Krea. He used Seedance for Stu Needs A Dollar, prefers Flora for node workflows, uses Venice for mature content other platforms block, and left Midjourney around 2024[1].

Why was Legend of the Void Spire made at 480p?

On purpose. It imitates 90s Saturday-morning practical-effects TV, which was never crisp, so he generated it at 480p, upscaled it to 1080 and left it there. It also saves credits[1].

How many followers does BLVCKL!GHT have?

As of 28 October 2026: 123.9K on TikTok with 2.4 million likes, 73.2K on X, 5.93K subscribers on YouTube and 2,254 on Instagram[7][6][3][8]. He says TikTok is his largest audience[1]. By his own count his work has passed 30 million views across all platforms, about 4 million of them on Gorbo's Swim Hole[41].

Has BLVCKL!GHT won any awards?

His site says he is a two-time Escape Awards winner[4].

What is West Coast AI Labs?

A self-funded studio collective of independent AI creators in Portland, with no boss. In 2026 he was one of three creators who signed the lease on its top-floor studio; its original founders are Vnderworld and Hax[1][4].
