03Biography

The Andrew Davis story: BBC to MySpace to AI

Chat rooms, before social media

Andrew Davis studied at the University of Roehampton from 1997 to 2000[1]. His digital career started in the rooms where people first talked to each other online: speaker bios say he moderated chat rooms and forums for Pop Idol, Liverpool FC, PlayStation and Friends Reunited[8][19]. It was community management years before the job had a name, and it set the theme of everything since: what makes people show up, and stay.

Yalding House: BBC Radio 1Xtra

Bios place him in the founding team of BBC Radio 1Xtra, the digital station the BBC launched in 2002, working as a producer at Yalding House, the home of Radio 1 and 1Xtra[8][20]. He refers to his BBC radio days on AI LIVE often[30]. The deadlines stuck with him: on Ep. 129 he used his old drive-time slot to explain Parkinson's law[16].

I learned this working in live radio... if you're not ready at 3:00, when I was doing a drive time show, then tough.

Andrew Davis[16]

Radio also taught him to edit. He learned on Cool Edit, later Adobe Audition, and says that made the move to video editing a small jump[21]. When he describes AI LIVE to people now, he still reaches for radio: the hosts are DJs and the films are the records[17][29].

A leap of faith to MySpace

In 2006 he left the BBC, "a leap of faith", to join MySpace as it launched outside America[11][21]. He started in music marketing, then "it just went to everything"[11]. Speaker bios credit him with community, content and digital marketing as MySpace UK grew from about one million to ten million users in under a year[9][20]. Worldwide, he remembers the site going from a couple of million people to hundreds of millions and becoming the biggest website in the world in about a year[21].

He stayed almost three years, through the rise and the fall[18]. He worked with bands such as Arctic Monkeys while they were building their following, and helped fund an early MySpace original series[18][31]. The lesson he took away came from putting the same BBC content on a MySpace profile and watching it get no views at all[11].

Content is king is a myth. Content is king if people see it.

Andrew Davis[11]

That became the framework he has taught ever since: content, then distribution, then conversion. Great content gets ignored without a plan for getting people to watch it[11].

From RSI to the training room

A repetitive strain injury in 2008 pushed him to build productivity systems for himself, and by 2009 he was training other people in digital tools[12]. He founded The Worst Kept Secret, a training and consultancy agency advising large UK and global brands on digital strategy[9][8]. Bios also credit him with the Social Media Fundamentals Program, billed as the UK's first social media course designed to improve numeracy and literacy and linked to GCSE English coursework, and describe it as both acclaimed and controversial[8][20].

His 2014 Advertising Week Europe speaker bio says he was a visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths and a digital strategy adviser at Doug Richards' School for Startups, had trained teams at Saatchi, Ogilvy, BlackBerry, MTV and the Premier League, and had been named in Media Week's 30 Under 30[20]. He spoke at that event on 2 April 2014, on how real-time, native and mobile advertising were changing digital advertising[20]. Speaker agency bios add that he sat on Ofcom's Advisory Committee for England for four years; we could not confirm the dates on Ofcom's own site[9][46].

For about ten years he delivered digital communications training for the charity Media Trust, which calls him its most in-demand speaker[19][6]. His site and agency bios list training for the BBC's Assistant Producer Accelerator Programme, Microsoft's graduate programme, KPMG, Royal Mail, Dyson, O2, Tesco, The Body Shop and Kiss FM, among others[6][46].

2022: all in on AI

He started using AI heavily in 2022, by his own account[22]. He and Chris Branch ran Midjourney audio rooms, where, Chris has said on air, they met much of the community that later formed around AI LIVE[39]. On 30 May 2023 he led Media Trust's session on the power of AI and the future of charity comms[19].

In A(i) Nutshell: a podcast every weekday

On 15 September 2023 he launched In A(i) Nutshell, a ten-minute daily podcast billed as generative AI for marketers and the everyday person. The first episode, on whether new AI businesses were set up for failure, was recorded with Chris Branch[13][23]. The show mixes news, tool reviews, prompt hacks, questions from his training sessions and AI seen through digital history[7].

It has kept the pace. The 400th episode went out on 19 May 2025 and the 700th on 29 July 2026; by 28 October 2026 Apple Podcasts listed 768[27][14][2]. The feed carries 64 episodes from the last months of 2023, 242 in 2024, 252 in 2025 and 212 in 2026 up to 28 October[7].

In June 2026 he published an honest breakdown of how much AI goes into it. He plans a monthly content calendar, batches his recordings and never records on the morning an episode goes out. AI summarises news bullet points before his Friday recordings and drafts the titles, descriptions, WhatsApp hooks and tags from each transcript, and occasionally the closing thought. The recording, the ideas, the delivery and the perspective are his[47]. The episode notes make the point that a real human behind the work is becoming the differentiator[47].

From LinkedIn Live to AI LIVE

Chris Branch's weekly LinkedIn Live began on 8 March 2023[48]. From March 2024 it went out under the In A(I) Nutshell name[24], and in September 2024 Andrew's podcast described it as "their weekly LinkedIn Live", with Chris, a third co-host, Max, and guests such as the filmmaker Dave Clark[26][25]. A podcast episode in April 2025 carries his and Chris's interview with the founder of Hedra[49]. From June 2025 LinkedIn listed the show as AI Live via Creativize with Chris Branch and Andrew Davis[28]. In August 2026 Chris said on air that the two of them had been doing this for about three years[21].

The earliest weekly episode on the AI LIVE site, Ep. 98 on 6 November 2025, has him co-hosting, and by Ep. 136 on 27 October 2026 he had co-hosted 27 weekly shows and 10 of the first 11 Creator Sessions, the long interviews with AI filmmakers[29][3][4]. He calls it a radio show, but instead of playing music, they play videos[17].

On air he plays the marketer and the teacher. The first question he asks of any new tool is "how much?", because if it costs the Earth or the Moon nobody outside specialist video producers will use it[40]. He tells people to be context engineers rather than prompt engineers, and reminds them that AI is trained on everything except their own experiences[41]. And since at least January 2025 he has argued that AI's golden era of free tools will end, as every free era online has, from penny-a-click AdWords to MySpace to Vine[50][51][29].

Anyone can build

He builds his own tools. On Ep. 113 he explained why he vibe coded an invoicing tool: "I've left thousands of pounds on the table without sending invoices"[32]. On 29 April 2026 he gave his fortnightly community Vibe Coding for Beginners, which sets out his Anyone Can Build Playbook, plan, prompt, prototype, and builds a follow-up CRM live in Google AI Studio from a Fathom call transcript[10]. He calls Google AI Studio the best free AI tool out there[32].

2026: the training year

His 2025 highlights episode lists growing fortnightly workshops, training, keynotes and the AI LIVE podcast[52]. In 2026 he mentioned on air training for the National Film and Television School and Amazon Prime Video, a programme with YouTube, the BBC and the NFTS for about 200 YouTubers and TV producers, an AI workshop for the BBC in Wales, talks at a London university, and sessions on answer engine optimisation[53][15][17][33][6]. On 8 September 2026 he spoke at the CN Agency Leaders Summit on winning business through social media[45].

In August 2026 he started Story Lens, short YouTube explainers built on a seven-stage "stranger comes to town" story structure that he uses with organisations to show where AI sits today[22][54]. Asked about his packed calendar, he was modest about it[17].

I'm far from a superstar. I just arrived early.

Andrew Davis[17]

His view of AI film is the long view of someone who has watched a platform rise and fall before. Talking about MySpace in 2006 next to AI film now, he put it simply on Creator Sessions #3[18].

I've seen this story before. I know how it's going to end.

His career in seven lines. Scroll, and each one lights up.

  1. 01Chat rooms

He started out moderating forums for Pop Idol, Liverpool FC, PlayStation and Friends Reunited, his bios say[8].

  2. 02Yalding House

Bios place him in the founding team of BBC Radio 1Xtra, the station launched in 2002, where live radio taught him that 3pm means 3pm[8][16].

  3. 032006

A leap of faith: he left the BBC for MySpace as it launched outside America, and watched it become the biggest website in the world[11][21].

  4. 04Zero views

The same BBC content on a MySpace profile got nothing. Content is king only if people see it[11].

  5. 052009

After an RSI and a home-made productivity system, he started training people in digital tools, and never stopped[12].

  6. 062022

He went all in on AI, then started a podcast about it that has not missed a weekday since[22][7].

  7. 07Now

He knows how platform stories end: free, then crowded, then monetised. So now is the time to get good, and to build your community[40][51].

Andrew, on the record

It's like a radio show, but instead of playing music, we're playing videos.
Andrew DavisHow he describes AI LIVE, Ep. 122[17]
Okay, this sounds great, but how much?
Andrew DavisThe question he asks of every new AI tool, Ep. 112[40]
What holds you back with AI is your imagination. That's pretty much it, cuz we're at the point where technology has caught up to our ideas.
Andrew DavisEp. 114[41]
AI can do amazing stuff. You can ask it to do something, it's going to do stuff based on what it's trained on. But what it's not trained on is your experiences.
Andrew DavisHow to make AI work personal, Ep. 114[41]
You almost want to be a context engineer, not a prompt engineer.
Andrew DavisOn how agents are changing prompting, Ep. 114[41]
If you can't be bothered to make a video with yourself, then I can't be bothered to watch it.
Andrew DavisOn creators who hand their channel to an AI avatar, Ep. 118[42]
Now is the time to do all of this stuff. Now's the time to get good at it. Now's the time to build your community.

Andrew DavisEp. 110[43]
That million pound represents the four years of training and doing this and getting it wrong and pulling your hair out and getting frustrated.

Questions about Andrew

Who is Andrew Davis from AI LIVE?

Andrew Davis, also known as Andrew Miles Davis, is a London-based generative AI trainer and keynote speaker who co-hosts AI LIVE with Chris Branch and hosts the daily podcast In A(i) Nutshell. Speaker bios place him at BBC Radio 1Xtra and MySpace UK before a long career in digital training[6][3][2][8].

Is Andrew Davis the same person as Andrew Miles Davis?

Yes. Andrew Miles Davis is the name on his website, his podcast notes and his YouTube channel; he appears as Andrew Davis on AI LIVE and LinkedIn[6][7][1].

Is this the Andrew Davis who wrote Brandscaping?

No. This is the UK trainer and podcaster. He is not the US marketing speaker and author of Brandscaping, not the film director of The Fugitive, and not the reality TV contestant who shares the name.

What is In A(i) Nutshell?

A ten-minute daily podcast on generative AI for marketers and the everyday person, hosted by Andrew since 15 September 2023. It covers AI news, tool reviews, prompt hacks and questions from his training sessions[13][7].

How many episodes of In A(i) Nutshell are there?

768 on Apple Podcasts as of 28 October 2026. He reached episode 400 on 19 May 2025 and episode 700 on 29 July 2026, and published 252 episodes in 2025 alone[2][27][14][7].

Does Andrew Davis use AI to make his podcast?

Partly. AI summarises news bullet points before he records and drafts titles, descriptions, WhatsApp hooks and tags from the transcript, and occasionally the closing thought. He plans, records and delivers every episode himself[47].

What did Andrew Davis do at the BBC?

Speaker bios say he was part of the founding team of BBC Radio 1Xtra, the digital station launched in 2002, working as a producer at Yalding House. On AI LIVE he has talked about producing a live drive-time show[8][20][16].

Did Andrew Davis work at MySpace?

Yes. He left the BBC for MySpace in 2006 and spent almost three years there, starting in music marketing as the site launched in the UK. Bios credit him with community, content and digital marketing during its growth[11][18][9].

What does Andrew Davis mean by "content is king if people see it"?

At MySpace he saw BBC content that did well elsewhere get no views on a MySpace profile. His lesson: great content needs distribution and a plan to get it watched. He teaches it as content, then distribution, then conversion[11].

What is the Anyone Can Build Playbook?

His three-step method for building your own apps without writing code: Plan (clarify the idea, define the problem, map the solution), Prompt (write clear prompts, provide context, guide the AI) and Prototype (build quickly, test and iterate, ship and improve)[10].

What apps has Andrew Davis vibe coded?

He has shown a follow-up CRM called Follow Up Mentor built in Google AI Studio from a call transcript, a 30-day habit tracker called Momentum and a boxing reaction timer made with Manus, and has said he built an invoicing tool[10][32].

How many AI LIVE shows has Andrew Davis co-hosted?

37 by 28 October 2026: 27 weekly episodes and 10 of the first 11 Creator Sessions. The "On AI LIVE" section of this page lists them all[3][4].

What did Andrew Davis predict for AI in 2026?

His cards for 2026: the golden era of free AI ends, the big companies dominate, AI video grows for good and bad, agents prepare for the mainstream but are not ready, vibe coding grows, AI is everywhere but not always good, LLMs go multimodal so pick a side, and the skill gap widens[56].

Who has Andrew Davis trained?

His site and bios list the BBC, Amazon and the NFTS, Prime Video, Microsoft's graduate programme, KPMG, Royal Mail, Dyson, O2 and Tesco, and about ten years with Media Trust. By July 2026 he had trained well over 5,000 people face to face[6][46][19][14].

How can I book Andrew Davis to speak or train?

Through his website, andrewmilesdavis.com, or speaker agencies including Performing Artistes, NMP Live, F4 Group and The Closer[6][9][46][8][12].
